Which Chris reigns supreme: Pine, Pratt, Evans, or Hemsworth? We comb through their movies to find out once and for all.

Evans, Hemsworth, Pratt, or Pine? Which Chris has the best movies?

Recently Twitter decided to play a version of “Would you Rather?” This is a game that frequently pops up on Twitter – usually it consists of a list of similar things and you have to pick which one you’d get rid of forever, or a top 3, etc.

You’ll often see people arguing over which national restaurant chain is the best or which popular movie franchise the world can do without. However, last week the game that went viral was a little different. One user posted pictures of four of the most famous (and similar looking) actors named Chris – specifically Evans, Hemsworth, Pratt, and Pine. The question was “Which is the worst?”

The internet nearly unanimously decided that Pratt was the one Hollywood could do without. Now, most people came to this conclusion based on what little they know about Pratt’s political affiliations, but we started to wonder “Who has the best movies?” So we did a little digging and looked at who has starred in the most interesting movies. (TV shows & streaming series are not being considered in this oh-so-very-serious analysis.)

Chris Evans

Obviously Chris Evans has been an integral part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe playing the character Captain America. This franchise has been wildly popular and he has been widely praised for his work as Steve Rogers. But, what else has Evans done? Turns out, quite a bit.

Knives Out (2019)

Knives Out was a brilliant movie and one of the last blockbusters to hit theaters before COVID-19 shutdown the world. This ridiculous and fun murder mystery featuring a jaw dropping star-studded cast felt refreshingly different.

Gifted (2017)

Evans loves to take on smaller indie films when he can and Gifted is a great example. This movie is a beautiful heartfelt drama that asks questions about what really needs to be prioritized in life.

Snowpiercer (2013)

You can’t forget Snowpiercer – the dark action sci-fi that takes place on a train containing the last of humanity. This film was also directed by Bong Joon-ho, who is now an Academy Award-winning director. This movie seeks answers to questions about survival, classism, morality, and the limits of humanity.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (2010)

We hope we don’t have to tell you too much about this cult classic film, which features Chris Evans as one of the seven exes who must be defeated by Scott Pilgrim. This comedic movie is hailed by many as their favorite movie of all time.

Miscellaneous weirdness

While Evans has been part of a lot of great projects, it’s worth noting he’s also had his fair share (maybe more) of weird movies & bad romcoms. Before We Go, an indie film, which was Evans’s directorial debut was very poorly received (though we actually enjoyed it quite a bit) for being slow & having a less than satisfying ending for most.

Evans was also in the Anna Faris comedy What’s Your Number?, the strange action comedy The Losers, a weak romcom called The Nanny Diaries, and the mess that is Not Another Teen Movie, which admittedly does provide viewers with a naked Chris Evans covered in carefully placed whipped cream.

Chris Hemsworth

Chris Hemsworth has been in plenty of MCU movies as the superhero Thor, but he also has plenty of other movies to peruse.

Extraction (2020)

This Netflix film wasn’t terribly well received. It plays out like every other generic mercenary movie for the most part (you can read our summary of it here).

Men in Black: International (2019)

This reboot/sequel film of the well loved Will Smith-led franchise didn’t feature Smith at all. Instead it followed Hemsworth as a cocky character who didn’t feel all that different than Thor. Plus, Tessa Thompson doing her darndest to make the movie watchable. This sequel felt like a children’s movie having an identity crisis.

Bad Times at the El Royale (2018)

This film was very aesthetic-based & took on a brooding tone, so it isn’t for everyone. However, this movie did feel like it would be worth mentioning in a film studies class for its attention to detail & interesting method of storytelling. We thought this movie was quite interesting.

Ghostbusters (2016)

The all-women Ghostbusters reboot wasn’t very well received. Despite their star-filled cast of comedy actresses, the jokes usually fell flat and the plot wasn’t terribly engaging.

As much as we hate to say it Hemsworth was the funniest part of this movie, but not enough to save it.

Miscellaneous action movies

Hemsworth tends to prefer doing action movies where possible and has quite a few of them in his filmography including 12 Strong, Snow White and the Huntsman (and sequel), In the Heart of the Sea, Blackhat, and the popular horror movie The Cabin in the Woods.

Chris Pratt

Pratt obviously has his own MCU tie-ins with his Guardians of the Galaxy character and also helms the new Jurassic World movies. Let’s look at some of his other work.

The LEGO Movie (2014)

The LEGO Movie, an animated kids film, was widely regarded as a surprise hit for all ages. This humous movie kept the whole family laughing and is well worth watching if you haven’t seen it yet.

Onward (2020)

This Pixar film was another all-ages friendly film, but wasn’t quite as loved. This film takes on a much more serious tone overall and didn’t really have anything to make it stand out, despite the lack of new movies this year.

The Magnificent Seven (2016)

This dark western movie is an action packed movie featuring A-list actors including Denzel Washington. While the movie was rather well liked critically, audiences were less impressed and the movie only has a 5.7 rating on IMDb.

Passengers (2016)

Passengers was a much talked about sci-fi movie when it came out. The film focused on Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt more or less alone in space. It was also nominated for two Oscars. Though, the movie is rather pretentious feeling – then again, how else does one get nominated for an Oscar?

Miscellaneous movies

Pratt doesn’t really have a theme in his miscellaneous movies. He was also in Zero Dark Thirty and the abhorrently received Jem and the Holograms which got pulled from theaters for doing so badly. Pratt is also in What’s Your Number?, as well as Bride Wars & 10 Years.

Chris Pine

The only white Chris not featured in the MCU, Chris Pine instead leads the current Star Trek movies as Captain Kirk and also has a leading role in both Wonder Woman and the upcoming Wonder Woman 1984. Pine seems to prefer working on digital shows, but here are his notable movies.

Outlaw King (2018)

This Netflix film was dark, cinematic, and got most of its press due to the fact Pine is ever so briefly featured in a scene with full frontal nudity. Though the camera is extremely far away when this happens.

A Wrinkle in Time (2018)

This kids’ movie is a good time & worth showing to any little ones you may have in your family, however despite Pine’s character being pretty central to the story, you see very little of him.

Into the Woods (2014)

Showing off his singing chops, Pine plays an arrogant prince in Into the Woods. Musical fans were excited to see this movie, but many walked away feeling disappointed. Although, it did get nominated for three Oscars.

This Means War (2012)

Perhaps not the most substantial film, This Means War is a very funny romcom where two CIA agents (Chris Pine & Tom Hardy) both vie for the love & affection of Reese Witherspoon’s character. This movie may have been forgotten in the annals of time, but we rather enjoy it.

Miscellaneous movies

Pine mostly spends his time on episodic content so we really only feel the need to mention Hell or High Water and The Finest Hours in his misc. category.

Who’s the best?

Well, in the end you’ll have to decide for yourself. However, we’re not about to cop-out. Personally, we find that Chris Evans – despite his laundry list of, frankly, terrible movies when he was trying to make a name for himself, has some of the best and most interesting movies to his name – many of which were well received by audiences.

Hemsworth seems to prefer mediocre franchises & forgettable action movies, Pratt has a few gems amid boring roles, and Pine, while having some interesting titles, spends most of his time doing episodic work & thus has a short list of hit or miss movies under his belt, aside from his popular franchises.
