What happened in ‘Stranger Things’ season 3? Everything you need to know

It’s a new year and this year has some exciting things arriving (if COVID-19 doesn’t get in the way). Journeying to Hawkins every year since Stranger Things first arrived on Netflix has provided a lot of laughs and kept us on the edge of our seats. Unfortunately, the Duffer brothers are bringing the show to its end with season 4 due to arrive later this year.

Need a refresher course on all the things that took place in the upside down during season 3? Here are the best moments from Stranger Things last season.

Strange things are happening

Previous seasons of Stranger Things feature 80s nostalgia, crazy monsters, and hormonal teenagers. Season 3 is no different. It’s 1985 and everyone is having fun during their summer break. Unfortunately for Hawkins, some hidden secrets are making their way to the surface and darkness is infecting everyone.

Eleven and the gang are doing what they do best and that is fighting evil while dealing with their own personal dramas. It was filled with heartbreaking & hilarious moments. Here are some of the best:

Hopper’s parenting skills

Sheriff Jim Hopper (David Harbour) changed a lot during season 3 and became much more of a typical father figure to Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown). Eleven is a teenager and currently dating Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard) which is making Hopper set some ground rules including the “3-inch” rule.

However, in true rebellious teen fashion, Eleven & Mike ignore all rules much to Hopper’s dismay. The best moment happens when Hopper goes all protective father on Mike and warns him to obey. Classic

Magnet mayhem

Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) is the hero we all need & deserve. The only woman in the town of Hawkins smart enough to determine that magnets falling doesn’t sit right especially when weird science experiments are the norm. A scene that really stands out is when Joyce calls the government to convey how much danger they’re truly in after Hopper tries & fails.

Rockin’ Robin

Robin Buckley (Maya Hawke) steals the show during her performance in season 3. She’s a new addition to the Stranger Things crew and she doesn’t disappoint. A scene that stood out for many fans was when she came out and spoke of her sexuality to Steve Harrington (Joe Keery) on a toilet floor. Robin & Steve have a bonding moment and that’s why it made its way to Film Daily’s best moments.

Steve & Dustin

This is a friendship that’s become a fan favorite. Steve and Dustin Henderson’s (Gaten Matarazzo) reunion in season 3 was hilarious & heartwarming. School’s out for summer and Dustin has returned home after spending time at camp. Luckily, Steve is waiting and they both take part in a cringy handshake.

Billy

To put it simply, we stan Billy Hargrove (Dacre Montgomery) in Stranger Things season 3. He may come across as an arrogant character when he’s first introduced. However, his character development is simply the best. Going from a selfish big brother to a caring man was one thing that made season 3 that much better.

If we had to pick one scene it’s the moment he saves Eleven by sacrificing his own life. In one word: heartbreaking.

Hopper’s goodbye

Tears were shed. Don’t deny it. When Eleven reads a letter Hopper wrote which he was planning on reading to her made the finale that much more painful. Not only is Stranger Things filled with cool sci-fi and a killer soundtrack, but we care about the strange people who continue to fight for their lives each season.

We can only hope season 4 brings our beloved Hopper home and we get to see that all-important father/daughter reunion.
