The Masked Singer has taken North America by storm these past few seasons. But who have been the strangest celebrities to have joined the cast?

‘The Masked Singer’: The strangest celebrities to appear on the cast

In 2019, FOX premiered the celebrity singing competition phenomenon The Masked Singer, a South Korean-based show in which famous celebrities dress up in elaborate costumes, singing week after week in a single-elimination format. Their voices are disguised during clue & interview segments, making it difficult for the fans & judges to be certain of who’s who.

The American version of The Masked Singer is hosted by musician & actor Nick Cannon, featuring a cast of celebrity judges including Jenny McCarthy, Robin Thicke, Nicole Scherzinger, and Ken Jeong.

The series, which will premiere its fifth season this March, has had an impressive list of celebrity appearances, all leading up to stellar finales which crowned Masked Singer Champions like Wayne Brady, T-Pain, Kandi Burruss, and LeAnn Rimes. But what about the strangest celebrities who’ve made appearances on The Masked Singer cast list? Let’s delve into some of the best & strangest appearances!

Mickey Rourke

Let’s just kick off this list with the strangest Masked Singer reveal ever!

The season 4 premiere featured the “Gremlin”, an obvious male voice who belted out “Stand By Me”. The performance, while soulful, wasn’t quite up to par with the rest of the evening’s performances, leaving many fans asking the question of “what ninety-year old is under that mask?”

But that wasn’t the strangest part.

As host Nick Cannon began to ask the judges to make their guesses, based on the clue package & performance, the Gremlin began to rebel and, against the show’s standard format, took off the mask before the episode even had a chance to get to elimination. The Gremlin was revealed to be actor Mickey Rourke, who clearly wasn’t as into the show as when he signed up to do it. Many speculate if this moment was staged or not.

Bella Thorne

Season 3 of The Masked Singer featured the “Swan”, a skinny-legged female who sang songs like “Fever” & “I Hate Myself for Loving You”. While the performer could carry a tune, the Swan couldn’t quite keep up with other impressive vocals during the season, forcing her elimination by week three.

This reveal was a bit of a shock for audiences, as the once Disney performer had really made it clear to fans over the years that she has a rebellious side. This didn’t feel like a show that people would expect Bella Thorne to be on, which is why judges had assumed that the Swan might’ve been Megan Fox or Olivia Munn.

Sarah Palin

Yeah . . . this one got us.

Former Vice Presidential candidate went on Season 3 of the popular singing competition as a clear middle finger to her haters. And you know something? We loved it!

Sarah Palin was the “Bear”, who busted out to “Baby Got Back” in her debut performance. It was incredible. Guesses by the judges included Olympic ice skater Tonya Harding, Candace Cameron Bure, and Tina Fey. Sadly, Palin was sent home first in her group, but my lord was that reveal epic.

Lil Wayne

While season 3’s the “Robot” was anything but a surprise reveal, we were still pleasantly shocked to see rap icon Lil Wayne take off his mask in the season 3 premiere.

That nasal tone mixed with alien sex sounds is so synonymous with Lil Wayne’s voice that we would’ve been shocked if it wasn’t him. That being said, landing Lil Wayne on The Masked Singer is a pretty impressive get. While the rapper only got to perform one song, “Are You Gonna Go My Way”, we’re glad that we got at least that.

Dr. Drew Pinsky

Just what the doctor ordered, right?

Dr. Drew Pinsky, an addiction medicine specialist who’s made a nice career on a variety of TV programs, especially on MTV, surprised fans when he was revealed to be the “Eagle” on season 2’s cast.

Dr. Drew performed “These Boots Are Made for Walkin”, who, like the aforementioned celebrities, was sadly eliminated from the show shortly after. While Dr. Drew was eliminated from the cast during week three, he still remains in our hearts even to this day.
