Does Chrishell Stause regret sharing her divorce on ‘Selling Sunset’?
This Is Us star Justin Hartley & Selling Sunset star Chrishell Stause’s divorce captured Hollywood’s attention because of how it dropped. Hartley divorced Stause in November while she was filming Selling Sunset season 3, letting Stause know he filed via text – forty-five minutes later, TMZ let the world know.
Chrishell Stause asserted the divorce blindsided her, but a source for Us Weekly claimed “they had been having problems in their marriage for a while.” Stause confirmed they fought over the phone that morning but through all their ups & downs Us Weekly’s source, “never thought [Hartley] would just go and suddenly file for divorce, and not even try to save things.”
A divorce is never easy to go through, especially while filming a reality TV show. TMZ already made Chrishell Stause & Justin Hartley’s divorce public, but Selling Sunset season 3 became all about Stause’s divorce details. Stause had a rough experience while filming that made it harder on her after the season dropped on Netflix in August:
“It’s an embarrassing, humiliating type of thing to go through without cameras and without people judging you, so I just hope people are gentle when they watch.”
On the RealiTea with Derek Z podcast, Chrishell Stause detailed her experience getting divorced on camera. Selling Sunset would have left out more details if Stause had a say. “Unfortunately, I’m in a position where more has been shared that I would have ever chosen because this was not a choice that I made. Nor was this the timing that I would have chosen.”
Reality shows capture everything, including the ugly parts of life. Despite how Selling Sunset filmed her divorce, Chrishell Stause expressed hope viewers see the stars as human. “We’re real people. This was a traumatizing time in my life.” If left up to her, the divorce would have happened after filming wrapped so the details would never have gone public.
Chrishell Stause doesn’t regret the details leaking, “In putting it out there, it’s able to give somebody something to look at, not for inspiration, but feeling that they’re not alone.”
Chrishell Stause moved on from the divorce after Selling Sunset season 3 premiered. In September, she told Entertainment Tonight she began receiving potential suitors over DM. “I have to say I have had a few, yes. I feel so weird. But yes, that has been a nice surprise.”
Chrishell Stause hasn’t gone on many dates since the divorce due to COVID-19. According to Entertainment Tonight, Stause is excited to get out and mingle. She’s also part of the season 20 cast of Dancing with the Stars.
Hartley moved on sooner – he was spotted kissing his now-girlfriend Sofia Pernas in May. Many fans believe Hartley cheated on Chrishell Stause with Pernas in 2019 when they were in Canada together. Hartley’s quick rebound is why, but sources close to Hartley & Stause claim he never cheated.
In a recent interview, Chrishell Stause commented on Hartley’s rebound. “I feel like anybody would be heartbroken to see how quickly or easily you are replaced – of course that’s going to sting,” – she admitted it was “painful” seeing him with someone else.
According to Chrishell Stause, Hartley’s sudden rise to fame on This Is Us “changed” him. Stause shared a quote on Instagram detailing her feelings. “It’s hard to watch people change right in front of you. But it’s even harder remembering who they used to be.”
Hartley’s “changes” might refer to his new contract on This Is Us. According to TMZ, Hartley’s new contract for the next three seasons gives him a $4.5 million paycheck per year. If the judge agrees with Hartley on the separation date, then the money from the new contract is off the table.
