‘The Walking Dead: World Beyond’: Is this spinoff worth the hype?

The Walking Dead has truly changed the game with zombie-themed entertainment. Ten seasons of watching some seriously fierce & strong human beings fight back against vicious creatures of the dead has been pretty enjoyable. The show is based on a very graphic comic book series written by the very talented Robert Kirkman. It’s been so widely appreciated that it’s gotten a handful of spinoffs. 

The Walking Dead: World Beyond is the spinoff currently in question. Is it worth checking out? Does it live up to all of the hype? Fear the Walking Dead was a great prequel series leading up to the main story and providing some much needed history. The Walking Dead: Torn Apart and The Walking Dead: Cold Storage both told some interesting stories as well.

Ten episodes of intrigue

There are only ten episodes to binge-watch of The Walking Dead: World Beyond but each one is worth watching. The story covers a group of teenagers who have been sheltering together for safety in one safe space for a long period of time. Their father needs medical attention but they aren’t sure what to do or how to handle things. They suddenly receive a message that inspires hope.

They decide to embark on a journey across the lands of the dangerous post-apocalyptic world they are living in with the intention of saving their father’s life. They’ve only ever seen the walls of their safe space, sheltered from harm’s way and from the reach of zombies. They are finally putting themselves out there to face life or death risks for the first time ever.

Who’s in the cast?

Alexa Mansour plays the role of Hope Bennett, a sixteen-year-old girl who has been adopted by Kari & Leopold Bennett. Instead of being bogged down by depression due to her current circumstances, Hope tries to keep things lighthearted & playful. She prefers to live in the moment and look for the brighter side of things. Her name, Hope, matches her personality perfectly.

Nico Tortorella plays Felix Carlucci, a young man who was able to survive the outbreak after living a life working as the head of security at the Campus Colony in Omaha. He also works as a survival instructor who knows how to keep his word no matter what happens. Felix’s loyalty is secure.

Aliyah Royale plays Iris Bennett, a likable teenage girl who depends on her brains to get by each difficult day. She’s proud of her father for being an intelligent scientist and she has plans to follow in his footsteps. All she wants in life is for things to return to normal – the way they were before the outbreak.

Annet Mahendru plays Jennifer “Huck” Mallick, a kind-hearted woman in her early-thirties who is ready to step up the plate to survive. She’s considered one of the tough ones who is able to maintain a faithful outlook on life even though she’s been through a lot of horrific experiences. 

Is The Walking Dead: World Beyond worth watching?

The Walking Dead: World Beyond is definitely worth watching for fans of The Walking Dead universe and all that it has to offer. Season 2 of The Walking Dead: World Beyond has already been confirmed which means it’s a good time to watch season 1 in preparation. 

Max Osinski from Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and Shameless will be joining the cast for season 2 as a soldier named Dennis. Season 2 will premiere sometime in 2021 and will also consist of ten episodes, following the pattern of season 1. It’s about to be very exciting.
