‘Queen of the South’ season 5: Who is going to die this season?
What happened in Queen of the South season 4?
Spoiler alert!
Queen of the South season 4 begins with Tony going on the run from a group of men trying to kill him. He gets help from Kelly Anne Awken (Molly Burnett) to go to New Orleans and reunite with Teresa. Once in New Orleans, Teresa coaches Tony how to drive. One fateful night as Tony turns on the car, an explosion ignites, hurling Tony and Teresa out of the car. We find out that Teresa is in a coma, but Tony has died.
At the end of Queen of the South season 4, Teresa wakes from a coma and finds out what happened to Tony. Teresa vows to take revenge for Tony’s death. By the end of Queen of the South season 4 we find out that Javier Jimenez (Alfonso Herrera) was responsible for Tony’s death. Javier is doused in fire and a bloody James Valdez (Peter Gadiot) comes back into Teresa’s life, warning that someone’s coming for her.
What will happen in Queen of the South season 5?
With the people closest to Teresa dropping and an ominous warning, it’s hard not to speculate what’s going to happen in Queen of the South season 5. We know that Teresa is trying to expand business with the Russians and that the DEA is circling, but where is it all leading to?
We won’t forget the opening scene of Queen of the South season 1, in which Teresa is shot down in her own compound. Is that where we’re heading?
Co-showrunner for Queen of the South Ben Lobato pointed out that season 4 was important to create higher stakes for Teresa by surrounding her with family and loved ones. Lobato mentioned that Tony’s death will serve as a catalyst and turning point for Teresa. Tony’s death will change Teresa’s perspective and act as a necessary step for her to become queenpin.
Who’s next in Queen of the South season 5?
We don’t know if the ominous scene at the beginning of Queen of the South is going to culminate to a Tony Montana-like scene in which her compound is stormed and everyone is shot down. It could be just as likely that the shooting of Teresa in the opening of Queen of the South is the moment during which Teresa is reborn a queen.
The fact that James Valdez appears bleeding at the end of Queen of the South season 4 also suggests that his days may be numbered. Queen of the South season 5 could give us the death of James Valdez if the people after him find where he went. Ben Lobato’s comments resonate here: all those closest to Teresa will be brought forward to raise the stakes. Does that put James Valdez at risk?
In this new season of Queen of the South it seems likely that we’re going to see just why James Valdez disappeared in Queen of the South season 3. It might be these reasons that eventually lead to Teresa being shot, or even why James is bleeding at the end of season 4. One thing is for sure, it’s going to keep us entertained as hell.
What can we do while we wait for Queen of the South season 5?
Though it’s still not clear when Queen of the South season 5 will actually air, we know that the stakes are only going to get higher for Teresa. We know production stopped on March 14th and it seems unlikely that the next season will drop in the early part of 2021, as originally planned. In the meantime, check out the cartels that inspired Queen of the South.
