How David Nephilim’s fan art keeps the ‘Shadowhunters’ fandom together
We take another look at talented artist David Nephilim’s work for Shadowhunters now that the show has wrapped – but not for good ,we think!

What’s up, Shadowfan? The second part of the third & final season of Shadowhunters is right around the corner and, if you’ve been following our tweets closely, you know we couldn’t be more excited. Film Daily will still be campaigning for a fourth season till the sun burns out, but until then it’s almost time to say goodbye to our favorite team of demon-hunting badasses.
To celebrate the upcoming release, we’ve teamed with Boom Bitches SH and the epic David Nephilim to reveal his excellent fan-funded LA billboard poster design for the upcoming season. We think it’s high time he got the praise he deserves for engaging so enthusiastically with the Shadowhunters fandom.
David’s love for the show is evident in all the work he does, both designing posters & artwork and his interactions with fellow fans. Nephilim’s artwork has become synonymous with the show in the last year. After his wave of success, any marketing team would be stupid not to hire his expertise on the spot! We can’t wait to see what he goes on to next.
Speaking about the series, David echoed what’s been in a lot of our heads since the news of Shadowhunters’s cancellation.
“This show and its characters, cast and crew have inspired me and given me the opportunity to know myself better and find out what I truly like. But above all, without the love and support of the fandom, I wouldn’t have done half the things I’ve done.
“This fandom is a safety net and everyone makes you feel welcome. It’s an experience I don’t think I’ll ever have again with a show and fandom. I’m lucky enough for all the opportunities I’ve been given and I couldn’t be more proud of being a part of a family as loving as this.”
To further celebrate David, we want to showcase some of our fave pieces of his as well as letting you all know how you can keep supporting him and The Trevor Project.
These are some of his most recent pieces and, if you like what you see, you can find similar designs on his personal Redbubble and his #SaveShadowhunters page as well. All the proceeds, in addition to voicing support for our fave show, will go towards The Trevor Project, a nonprofit organization that provides a suicide hotline and support network for LGBTQI youths.
David discussed his creative process during an interview with Basic Stuff Magazine. “I’ve actually been part of different fandoms for a long time, so I guess you could say it’s been quite a few years now, but it wasn’t until joining the Shadowhunters fandom that I fully explored my potential doing this”, he said.
“I sometimes do quick sketches to clearly see the idea on paper, and then I gather all the resources I need and start working on it,” the artist added. “It doesn’t take me a long time to do; I’m actually really fast if I’m 100% sure of what I’m going to do and the material is easy to find, so it usually takes me 4-6 hours.”
David Nephilim told the outlet that his favorite part of making the Shadowhunters artwork is the way it inspires other fans of the show. “Even though we’ve all spent time [with the series] and we’ve dealt with really heartbreaking and infuriating circumstances, there has been a lot of joy as well”, he explained.
