Prepare for season 5: Remembering who’s dead in ‘Money Heist’

Spanish series La Casa de Papel, better known as Money Heist is soon coming back with its fifth season, giving us the perfect time to reminisce about the four seasons gone by. One of the most poignant scenes & junctures in any TV show is the death of a character. Being a heist chase drama, Money Heist has its fair share of deaths to mourn. Here’s a round-up.

Oslo

Portrayed by Roberto Garcia, Rako Dragic is a war veteran & robber. He was the first major member of the team, albeit a secondary character to be killed off in the show. He was better known by his code name Oslo.

His death drives a real roller-coaster of emotions, considering it was actually a mercy killing. Oslo had been hit on the head by one of the hostages. The blow to the head left him braindead. His cousin Helsinki, played by Darko Peric, saw him in a vegetative state & decided to let him go gently into the night.

He swore to avenge his death with his last words to his cousin, “What have they done to you, brother? What have they done to you, those dirty motherfuckers? I’m gonna fuck them up. I’m gonna kill them all!” He then proceeded to strangle him to death with a pillow.

Moscow

Played by Paco Tous, Agustin Ramos was better known as Moscow. He met his demise when he was shot dead by the police. Caught in the act, as they say. He was involved in the heist with his son, but he got caught in the gunfire in front of the Royal Mint of Spain. While we get to see Tous in later episodes in flashbacks, it doesn’t change the fact that the character’s dead.

The gunfire was ugly & brutal as Moscow was shot multiple times in his stomach, and although frantic efforts were made to save him, his wounds were far too deep for him to come back from. He soon succumbed to them.

Berlin

Pedro Alonso shone in his role as Andrés de Fonollosa, code named Berlin. Berlin was a very likeable character, fans of the show hold testimony to this fact. His death was one of the most tragic because even though his diagnosis of a terminal disease had prepared us to lose him, we didn’t think it’d be so soon.

What makes his death even more poignant was that his demise was sacrificial. He acted as a distraction so his fellow heist members could escape safely. It was just as brutal, if not more – he was pierced with bullets by the police, and was killed instantly.

Like Moscow, he too has made appearances later in flashback episodes.

Ariadna Cascales

Ariadna Cascales, played by Clara Alvarado was a hostage in the Royal Mint of Spain heist. She also had a traumatic relationship with Berlin, who forced her to stay, manipulated & violated her. Her death was never revealed, the last we saw of her was her sobbing against the bullet-riddled, dead Berlin.

It is assumed that she was also killed at the same time.

Nairobi

One of the most defining moments for the fans of the show was when Nairobi, played by Alba Flores, died after being shot in the head. She was one of the very main characters – she was lost at the hands of Gandia, played by Jose Manuel Poga.

Nairobi was taken hostage by Gandia in the fourth season, but when she tried to walk away, he shot her in the head. She had previously been shot in the chest by the police, but survived it. The immediacy & unexpectedness of it all exaggerated the impact.

Gandia

This isn’t confirmed, but it’s highly likely that Gandia will be killed as revenge for Nairobi’s death. What goes around comes around.
