Who are the main characters in ‘The Untamed’?

Starring two boy band icons, Wang Yibo (王一博) of Korean-Chinese group UNIQ and Xiao Zhan (肖战) of the Chinese band X NINE, The Untamed has received a lot of attention from YA viewers.

Now available to stream on Netflix, The Untamed is a 2019 Chinese fantasy and drama series based on the novel entitled Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation (Mo Dao Zu Shi) by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu. The show follows two supernatural soulmates who travel in a magical world of inter-clan rivalry, facing treacherous schemes and dark mysteries along the way.

The Untamed has garnered much praise from its young adult audience, raising the series to a cult-like status. Wei Wuxian (played by Xiao Zhan 肖战)

The Untamed’s story revolves mainly around Wei Wuxian, also known as Wei Ying or Yiling Patriarch.

Orphaned by his servant parents at a young age, Wei later becomes a skilled sword fighter/archer and is fiercely loyal. He’s also rather outspoken, desiring to find his own path in the world.

Lan Wang Ji (played by Wang Yibo 王一博)

Lan Wang Ji’s birth name is Lan Zhan, and his title is Hanguang Jun (light-bearing Lord). But he’s also called Master Lan.

In The Untamed, Lan Wang Ji is raised in the Gusu Lan sect (there are five sects in total) by his uncle Lan Qiren after losing his parents. Still grieving the death of his mother, Lan Wang Ji grew up to be strict and aloof.

Lan Wangji is Wei Wuxian’s literary foil in The Untamed, but their mutual sense of loyalty.

Jiang Cheng (played by Wang Zhuo Cheng 汪卓成)

One of the most polarizing characters in The Untamed, Jiang Cheng becomes the brother of Wei Wuxian when he’s adopted by Jiang Fengmian (Lu Jiangmin). The two get off to a rough start, but eventually, develop an authentic brotherly bond. But, of course, the relationship remains strained.
