‘Crash Landing on You’ season 2: Find out if it’s ever going to happen

When Crash Landing on You aired on tvN in South Korea and on Netflix globally, the Korean romantic comedy quickly became a popular, beloved series. It aired from Dec. 14, 2019 to Feb. 19, 2020. Since that last episode, fans have wondered if or when a Crash Landing on You season 2 will be released.

So far, the show only has one season. The show is directed by Lee Jeong-hyo, who also directed other popular Korean dramas, including Criminal Minds, Life on Mars, The Good Wife, and Romance is a Bonus Book. Although you may recognize some of these titles as popular, long-running American shows, none of these adaptations have been renewed for more episodes – same goes for Crash Landing on You.

The show has garnered millions of viewers from across the world, and many of them have been requesting a new season. Those who enjoyed the show likely want to know if a Crash Landing on You season 2 is in production yet. Unfortunately, there haven’t been any official updates from Netflix or tvN so far.

Will there be a Crash Landing on You season 2?

It still hasn’t been officially renewed, so there isn’t a sure answer as to whether or not there will be a Crash Landing on You season 2. Production halts have been a major part of the coronavirus pandemic, so maybe fans just need to wait.

Although the pandemic might not be the reason there’s no season two yet, fans shouldn’t get discouraged until television and movie sets can run normally again.

If it doesn’t get a second season, it won’t be because of ratings. Variety listed the show as one of the “Best International Shows to Watch on Netflix.” The show is also one of the streaming platform’s most-watched shows. The Crash Landing on You finale even broke records on tvN. It got higher viewership than the network’s previously most-viewed show, Goblin.

What is Crash Landing on You about?

Crash Landing on You stars two popular South Korean actors, Hyun Bin & So Ye-Jin. The show’s story follows the romance of Yoon Se-ri, a South Korean heiress, and Jeong-hyeok, a Captain in the North Korean Special Police Force.

Yoon Se-ri accidentally ends up in North Korea after a paragliding incident takes her off course. South Koreans are not allowed there, so the show centers around her love for Jeong-hyeok while struggling as a South Korean in North Korea. Jeong-hyeok provides Yoon Sw-ri shelter & safety and the two even try to develop a plan to help her escape.

“Like Dorothy who meets the Wizard of Oz by accident, or like the pilot who meets the little prince by crash landing in a desert, Crash Landing on You depicts how an endless cycle of luck, destiny and beautiful stories can begin from unlikely and unexpected misfortunes, bad luck, and crash landings,” Netflix revealed about the show’s plot.

What will Crash Landing on You season 2 be about?

Since there’s no official confirmation of a Crash Landing on You season 2, it’s difficult to say how the plot will continue in future episodes. The show will obviously need the two main protagonists. There are also side characters who could get more story development from plots left out in the first season.

If there is someday a second season, the show will likely still center around the themes of political unrest between North & South Korea. Since the show is a romance, new episodes will need to rely on advancing the relationship between Yoon Se-ri & Jeong-hyeok.

In the finale of the first season, Yoon Se-ri returns home to South Korea, leaving behind Jeong-hyeok. The two meet again in Switzerland, but then both have to go back to their own countries. The second season would need to focus on how they can still maintain their love from so far away from each other.

A petition for Crash Landing on You season 2

Fans of the show really want a second season to happen. There are discussions about the show on social media and how the show could develop new stories. There is even a change.org petition online with over 12,000 signatures asking Netflix to bring the show back.

Maybe with enough passion from fans, a second season will go into development.
