The Gabby Petito case continues to puzzle authorities. Unearth the story and see if Brian Laundrie went camping when Petito's body was found.

Was Brian Laundrie camping when Gabby Petito’s body was found?

The country cannot get enough of the gripping story surrounding Gabby Petito’s disappearance. The case of Gabby Petito brings to mind both fictional stories like 2014’s Gone Girl, as well as real-life media frenzies like the one following the disappearance of Laci Peterson in the early 2000s.

However, the public hasn’t seen a story quite like Petito’s yet, deeply in the age of social media, and during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

As details trickle in surrounding Petito’s disappearance and possible murder, Gabby’s ex-beau Brian Laundrie has entered the spotlight in the investigation. Laundrie & Petito went on a road trip immediately before Petito’s disappearance, and now he has been more focused in headlines than even Petito. Here’s the latest.

Twists & turns

HuffPost reported on Wednesday that Brian Laundrie went on a camping trip with his parents before he disappeared.

If you’ve been following the disappearance of Gabby Petito, you know the story has taken some twists & turns since the public caught wind of Petito going missing. First, Petito was reported missing by her parents following a road trip with her ex-boyfriend Brian Laundrie. Laundrie returned from the trip without Petito.

Then, remains were discovered not long after Petito was reported missing, and an autopsy determined the body belonged to Gabby Petito. Then, as suddenly as Petito went missing, Brian Laundrie was nowhere to be found. He has still not been discovered by authorities.

Camping trip

Reports say an attorney representing Brian Laundrie and his parents has stated the family went on a camping trip shortly after Gabby Petito was declared a missing person. Reports say Laundrie returned from his trip with Petito alone to North Port, Florida on September 1st.

However, Brian Laundrie was reported missing on September 17th, and the attorney’s statement provides authorities only a few days of whereabouts between Laundrie’s return to Florida and his disappearance a few weeks later.

Reports say the Laundries went camping in Fort De Soto Park in Florida, about an hour away from the family home where Brian Laundrie & Gabby Petito once lived together. Petito’s body was discovered just two days after Brian Laundrie was reported missing.

The Laundries’ lawyer, Steven Bertolino, made a statement about the trip Brian and his family took after Laundrie returned home without Petito. Bertolino is quoted saying, “The family camped from 09-06 to 09-07 and they all left the park”.

Police and search parties have been scouring Fort De Soto Park in Florida, but apparently to no avail. The Sheriff’s office of Pinellas County, where the park is, has stated there have been no confirmed sightings of Brian Laundrie in the area as of yet.

Silence

The most curious detail involving Brian Laundrie in the Gabby Petito case is his and his family’s silence.

Reports say when Brian Laundrie returned home without Petito, Gabby’s family desperately asked the Laundries to help find Petito, or at least explain why he returned home without her. However, all of the Laundries declined to speak with cops about Gabby’s whereabouts.

Gabby Petito’s body was found hundreds of miles from the Laundries’ Florida home, in Wyoming’s Grand Teton National Park, where the couple had stopped during their road trip prior to Petito’s disappearance. The body helped authorities determine Petito’s death as a homicide.

Anyone who has seen an episode of Forensic Files might say things look dicey for Brian Laundrie. However, sources say Brian Laundrie is not currently a suspect in the case for Gabby Petito’s murder. However, Brian Laundrie’s disappearance following the discovery of Petito’s body raises many questions. An attorney for the Petito family has urged Brian Laundrie to come forward.
