Nicolas Cage is the Tiger King: Everything to know
Get ready for some more murder, mayhem, and madness as Nicolas Cage Tiger King TV project gets closer to our screens. It’s one of the most anticipated series announced this year. Just the thought of cult actor Nicolas Cage donning the mantle – and eyebrow ring – of Joe Exotic is what’s getting most of us through the rest of 2020.
The Nicolas Cage Tiger King project has just found itself a home on Amazon’s streaming service. The Prime Video streaming platform is set to develop a scripted series from CBS Television Studios & Imagine Entertainment with Amazon studios stepping in to produce. Let’s take a look at the upcoming series that will see Nicolas Cage in perhaps his greatest role yet.
Lights, camera, tigers!
If you’ve been living under a rock or found some way to live your life without a Netflix account, Nick Cage’s latest project will feature him portraying a rather eccentric zookeeper. Joe Exotic aka Joe Schreibvogel is known as the tiger king for his zoo full of big cats and his lust for fame & glory.
The Nicolas Cage Tiger King series will see Cage explore how Joe Schreibvogel turned into the persona we know as Joe Exotic. This series, instead of going off the Tiger King Netflix docuseries, will be based on a 2019 Texas Monthly article by Leif Reigstad, titled “Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey Into the World of a Man Gone Wild”.
There’s more than one way to skin a tiger
Nicolas Cage isn’t the only star to be featured in a Tiger King adaptation as the first to jump on the big cat bandwagon was Saturday Night Live comedian Kate McKinnon. In her version of events, Kate will take on the role of Carole Baskin, the mortal enemy of Joe Exotic.
Baskin is a big cat lover herself and is one of the motley crew interviewed in Tiger King. McKinnon’s series has already been picked up in a multi-platform order by NBC, Peacock, and USA Network. We’ll get to see Carole Baskin’s version of events in this series and possibly an interpretation of Baskin’s suspected involvement in her husband’s disappearance.
There’s no news on who might be stepping in as Joe Exotic for McKinnon’s series though there have been numerous speculations from Tiger King fans. Many have asked David Spade to consider taking on the role while other actors like Rob Lowe have been seen in Joe Exotic cosplay and have certainly convinced us of they’re right for the part.
In the cage with Nick Cage
The Nicolas Cage project has a good crew helming the production with Dan Lagana who worked on the comedy series American Vandal as the showrunner & executive producer.
Nicholas Cage is also listed as an executive producer for the Tiger King series and is working on yet another project with Amazon. This time, Cage will be voicing a dragon in an adaptation of Eoin Colfer’s novel Hellfire.
