While Tarik Freitekh might not be the most recognized name in the entertainment industry, it’s definitely a name you should watch out for. A simple search of his name on Google yields photos of him hanging out with celebrities such as Justin Bieber, French Montana, and Snoop Dogg. All of this imagery may lead you to believe that Freitekh is just another industry mogul. Yet, there is more than meets the eye with Tarik Freitekh.
Since entering the film & media industry when he was still in school in 2008, Tarik Freitekh has amassed a substantial list of credits. Freitekh has shared a global vision of media and his desire to unite people from across cultures & borders.
In doing so, Freitekh combines elements of eastern & western culture to address issues that affect us all. Even though you may have not heard of him before, there is a chance you have seen something he has worked on, and you definitely will recognize the names of the artists he has worked with.
Who Is Tarik Freitekh?
Born in Jerusalem, the 32-year-old businessman, director, producer, and writer has Bachelor’s degrees in both filmmaking & architecture. When he was just 20 years old, Freitekh befriended acclaimed recording artist Akon and began his venture into the world of music video production.
Since then, Freitekh has collaborated with artists such as Sharukhan & Tamer Hosny. He has also produced videos featuring the likes of Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, Jeremih, Shaggy, Ne-Yo, and Snoop Dogg. Freitekh runs his own label called World Music and has even been featured on MTV for helping produce content featuring Tyrese, Kelly Rowland, and Justin Bieber.
Freitekh in Film and Television
Not only is Tarik Freitekh an accomplished music video producer, but he also has several credits related to movies. Freitekh has directed two feature films and a television movie, one of which was his 2012 directorial debut, The Foreigner, starring Justin Simpson.
Freitekh has also produced several short films, including a documentary short entitled Fred’s Story. In addition to his directorial & production credits, Freitekh also founded the company Starbuzz Entertainment, located in Anaheim, California.
Freitekh’s philanthropy
Tarik Freitekh not only wants to create quality content, but he wants to give back to those that are less fortunate than he is. For instance, in 2014 he helped Akon with his charity project, Akon Lighting Africa. The project seeks to help those in Sub-Saharan Africa who don’t have access to clean & safe electricity.
So far, the charity has provided grid electricity to 32.3 million people. Despite being successful in the industry, Freitekh has not let fame & glory go to his head. He’s still looking out for ordinary people.
What is next for Tarik Freitekh?
Despite having been fairly prolific during the 2010s, little has been heard from Tarik Freitekh since 2018. He is last credited on a music video for Jeremih that was released that year. Additionally, his last activity on Twitter came in March of that year, when he retweeted a photo of Kevin Hart and him playing poker in the Bahamas.
Despite this hiatus, one can expect that there will be a resurgence of Tarik Freitekh in the rest of this decade. There have been rumblings that Freitekh is working on his latest project with Netflix, yet it is unclear what format it will take. Perhaps it will be another feature to add to his filmography, or it may be a return to the documentary mode for Freitekh.
