Fans and 'SNL' castmates alike are still fuming over Elon Musk hosting the May 8th episode of the show. Should musical guest Miley Cyrus host the episode?

Why are fans petitioning for Miley Cyrus to replace Elon Musk as ‘SNL’ host?

Both fans as well as a group of current Saturday Night Live castmates have shared their opinion since it was announced last week that Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla Motors and chief designer of SpaceX, would be hosting the May 8th show alongside musical guest Miley Cyrus. What?

The current cast of SNL has already had a slew of entertaining hosts during the show’s 46th season, including Adele, Dave Chappelle, Dan Levy, Daniel Kaluuya, and Nick Jonas. However, Elon Musk, who notably is not an actor, might actually bring something new to SNL, and while we’d be down to check out just exactly what Elon Musk would bring as a host, it’s clear that not too many others are on our side.

With that, as many things do in today’s world, comes the call for change, where people get together and petition their ideas until they get exactly what they want . . . even if that something is Musk’s musical guest Miley Cyrus taking the reigns as host.

SNL cast disapproves

The online backlash on social media was almost immediate after SNL announced that Tesla & SpaceX lead Elon Musk would be hosting the May 8th episode of the show. In fact, some of the current cast took to Twitter themselves to complain about the decision, including standout newbee Bowen Yang, who first took to his social media to display a frowning emoji. That being said, the emoji wasn’t enough, as Yang went on to complain.

Yang, who opted to respond to Musk’s tweet which read “Let’s find out just how live Saturday Night Live really is”, said “What the f&^$ does that even mean?” Yang continues by stating how “ONLY CEO I WANT TO DO A SKETCH WITH IS CHER-E OTERI”. Yang posted along with his comments a photo of both him and former SNL castmate Cheri Oteri, who’s known for her work on the show from the early 2000s.

Not alone in his efforts, Yang was joined by longtime cast member Aidy Bryant, who too commented on the situation, as shortly after the time of the announcement the Emmy-nominee shared a Bernie Sanders tweet about the “moral obscenity” of the lack of wealth distribution in America. However, it appears that both of these comedians’ comments have been deleted since then, a move likely forced by Lorne Michaels.

Fans are petitioning

Miley Cyrus has already begun to promote her upcoming appearance as the musical guest for the May 8th episode of SNL, and while she seems to be fine with being paired next to this controversial billionaire, it appears that her fans have a different sentiment towards it all. Many are even calling for the “Younger Now” singer to delete her tweet in which she tags Elon Musk, claiming that it’s not a good look for the young star.

However, instead of shaming Cyrus outright, many fans are petitioning on Twitter for SNL to simply remove Musk from his hosting duties and let Miley Cyrus host the May 8th show outright, having pulled double duty before as both host & singer in 2013 as well as 2015. If Miley Cyrus were to take over the hosting duties, it would be the fourth time she has hosted the iconic late-night sketch comedy show.

Other past SNL guests that have pulled double duty include Ariana Grande, Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Harry Styles, Garth Brooks, Dolly Parton, Paul Simon, as well as plenty of others. Sadly, we must admit that as it stands, the May 8th episode with Elon Musk could very well be a trainwreck . . . and we simply have to watch it for that reason!

What are your thoughts about the upcoming May 8th episode of SNL with host Elon Musk? Would you prefer Miley Cyrus to take over the duties as host? What’s your favorite all-time SNL sketch, or even your favorite host? Comment below and let us know your thoughts.
