It's Rose McGowan versus Oprah Winfrey over on Twitter. See the reasons why the actor is going up against the powerhouse of Oprah.

What is Rose McGowan’s beef with Oprah Winfrey on Twitter?

Rose McGowan has always been quite the outspoken individual who has made it clear that she doesn’t care what anyone else thinks of her, and recently she took to Twitter to express some strong opinions about Oprah Winfrey. In a recent post on her Twitter account, the star expressed that the talk show host was as “fake as they come” when it came to being friends with sexual assaulters.

Let’s take a look at all the wild drama here.

Calling her out

So what exactly did Oprah Winfrey do that has Rose McGowan calling the talk show host out on Twitter? Well, it turns out that Rose McGowan believes Oprah Winfrey is as “fake as they come” because of her old friendship with Harvey Weinstein. The actress shared a pic of Oprah Winfrey kissing Harvey Weinstein on the cheek to her fans. The photo of the talk show host and the ex-Hollywood producer was taken back in 2014.

The photo of Oprah Winfrey kissing Harvey Weinstein on the cheek was taken all the way back in the year of 2014 during the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, where the two look as happy as ever in the photo. Rose McGowan, who was an early activist in the #MeToo movement and accused Harvey Weinstein of rape, shared on Twitter: “I am glad more are seeing the ugly truth of @Oprah. I wish she were real, but she isn’t”.

From being pals with Weinstein to abandoning & destroying Russell Simmons’ [sic] victims, she is about supporting a sick power structure for personal gain, she is as fake as they come. #lizard”, Rose McGowan shared on her Twitter account. Russell Simmons is a hip-hop music mogul who, like Harvey Weinstein, has been accused of multiple cases of sexual assault or misconduct throughout the past years ever since the year 2017.

A viral video?

So why is Rose McGowan just now choosing to call out Oprah Winfrey on her Twitter account? It seems like this post was prompted thanks to a video that went viral recently of an old interview Oprah Winfrey did with country singer Dolly Parton all the way back in 2003. The talk show host was criticized for offensively asking Dolly Parton very personal questions about the singer’s body and insecurities about getting “work done”.

Oprah Winfrey said: “You’ve been open that you’ve had some work done, some tucks and pulls and sucks”, to which country singer Dolly Parton responded with: “Yes I have and I’ll have some more when I need them”. In the interview, Oprah Winfrey also brought up the singer’s depression, and stated that she heard Dolly Parton went into a “huge depression” when she turned forty years old.

When the video went viral, a lot of people brought up the conversation of the talk show host’s relationships with both Harvey Weinstein and Russell Simmons throughout the years. Back in January of 2020, the talk show host stepped down from being the executive producer of a documentary that was going to highlight the accounts of Simmons’ accusers and victims.

She explained: “there is more work to be done on the film to illuminate the full scope of what the victims endured, and it has become clear that the filmmakers and I are not aligned in that creative vision” and added that “I will be working with Time’s Up to support the victims and those impacted by abuse and sexual harassment”.

As for her old friendship with Harvey Weinstein, Oprah Winfrey said that she did not know about the accusations against the former Hollywood producer at the time, but did admit that she was aware he was a “bully”.

She said: “I was in Chicago, in my own little world, but what I knew about Harvey was that Harvey was a bully and that if Harvey’s on the phone, you didn’t want to take the call because you’re going to get bullied in some way”.
