As Daniel Craig steps away from his role as James Bond, what will the actor do next? Celebrate the actor's spy-filled career and his future in film.

Will Daniel Craig quit acting after James Bond’s success?

Daniel Craig is playing his last role as James Bond. . . The prolific actor has been the rugged face of the spy franchise for fifteen years, so we’re still not sure how to feel about his departure.

However, let’s not fret. Instead, let’s celebrate Daniel Craig’s astonishing career as James Bond, and hope for the best for his future roles.

Craig’s acting career begins

Surprisingly, Craig’s acting career started not on a movie set, but on the theatre stage. In fact, he had begun acting when he was just six years old, appearing in school plays from that age onward. He went to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in the late 1980s, and it wasn’t until after he graduated in 1991 that he appeared in movies.

His first film role was Afrikaner in The Power of One, and from there, he had minor roles in movies and on stage. They ranged from acting in silly films like A Kid in King Arthur’s Court to serious dramas such as Angels In America. And so, he continued acting into the mid-2000s.

So where does this tie into Daniel Craig as James Bond? Patience, dear readers. We’re getting there. . .

Craig gets cast

In 2005, Eon Productions (a British film company that mainly releases James Bond films) asked Daniel Craig to play the famous character. He was resistant at first, because of the depth of the role, but eventually, he decided to go for it.

The internet was none too happy about this choice at the time. According to Moono, “Anti-Craig” fans, via a website called “craignotbond.com” called for the choice to be changed. The following statement was released:

“Eon Productions angered fans around the world when they fired Pierce Brosnan at the height of his popularity as Bond. To add insult to injury, Eon cast a short, blond, odd-looking Daniel Craig in the role of Bond.”

“Craig, described by The New York Times as having a ‘pale, flattened face and large, fleshy ears’ is a terrible choice for Bond. If Eon Productions & Sony Pictures will not accept they’ve made a big mistake, then Bond fans promise to boycott Casino Royale!”

The “craignotbond.com” website is a whole other can of worms (We recommend you check it out yourself), regardless of the fan’s thoughts on his casting, Daniel Craig was hired to portray James Bond. And thus, his career truly began.

Craig’s time as 007

Craig first portrayed the iconic spy in 2006’s Casino Royale. The film was a critical & commercial success, with his performance especially receiving high praise. He went on to star as Bond in Quantum of Solace (2008), Skyfall (2012), Spectre (2015), and No Time to Die (2021).

Each time, he received much admiration from critics, all of who loved his acting. The results were in: Daniel Craig was the new James Bond, and he was exceptional at that job.

During this time period, he naturally made appearances in other films, such as The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo & The Golden Compass. He even kept up with theatre work, performing in A Steady Rain on Broadway. However, his Bond performances were the highlight of his career, and people loved seeing him as the iconic character.

This makes the last part of this article a tad bittersweet. Let’s talk about Daniel Craig’s departure from the James Bond projects.

The last time being Bond

No Time To Die, the latest Bond movie, will be the last he stars in. In this film, Bond leaves retirement in Jamaica to help find a kidnapped scientist. However, not everything is as it seems. . .

As Bond is retired, a new agent has taken on the codename as 007 in the field: Nomi, played by Lashana Lynch, is “the new Bond”, and history was made when she, a black woman, took the moniker of the spy.

We won’t spoil what happens to Bond in the movie, but this is his last adventure. Yes, Daniel Craig reprised Bond on The Late Late Show, but the character’s film presence is now done. We’re sad to see it, but do look forward to what comes from the franchise in the future.

What’s next for Craig?

Obviously, this won’t be the end of Daniel Craig’s acting career—his role as James Bond may be over, but he’s far from done! We look forward to seeing his future projects, and can’t wait to find out what this man has in store for us.
