Should you renew Amazon Prime? These top movies shout “yes”
Wondering if you want to keep that Amazon Prime subscription up & running? With the torrent of streaming services at our disposal, some of the most important decisions relate to the choice of the streaming platform subscriptions. After all, no one’s going to take them all. How do you decide which ones to subscribe to and which ones to renew?
If you’re pondering over whether Amazon Prime Video is worth a renewal, consider the following offerings by the platform & ask yourself: do you really want to miss out on these top movies?
Sonic The Hedgehog
Not an obvious choice to make it to any “top movies” list, but we could all use a feel-good road movie that we can also watch with the whole family. Sonic the Hedgehog takes the lovely video game & comic book character & creates an energetic plot. Ben Schwartz voices Sonic & James Marden, his accomplice, with Jim Carrey as the villain. Who can resist this voiceover casting?
If for no other reason, watch this movie on Amazon Prime for the incredible dialogue delivery.
Instant Family
How do we not give Rose Byrne more credit in comedy? A dramedy with a full heart, touching details, and a lot of love, Instant Family follows the story of a couple’s adoption of Lizzy, who has two more siblings.
As they raise the three kids, Rose Byrne & Mark Wahlberg are every bit stellar as they go through the ups & downs of foster parenting. No one’s trying to be didactic about it. Foster parenting has its quirks, and Instant Family brings the right amount of comedy, emotions, and drama to the screen. Watch it and you’ll see why it’s one of the top movies on Amazon Prime.
ET the Extra Terrestrial
How could we not include one of the most beloved alien movies out there? One of Steven Spielberg’s top masterpieces, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial was way ahead of its time. An alien gets left behind on earth to be spotted by Elliot. Elliot then hides him in their attic, while a dedicated task force is out there looking for it.
The plot uses a classic trope we’ve seen being reused for years until now, but there’s something about the cinematography — perhaps we have Spielberg to thank for it — that evokes the right emotions in the viewer.
A bonus is in the form of Drew Barrymore as a little girl, the younger sister of the alien’s friend and his partner in this mission.
Ae Dil Hai Mushkil
If you have a little bit of that Bollywood in you, you’d also want to catch up on the likes of Dil Dhadakne Do, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani . . . you get the drift. With its metaplot of the protagonist’s love for Bollywood, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil stands out. It’s the story of Alizeh Khan & Ayan Senger’s friendship that is interspersed with moments of flirtation.
The soundtrack to the movie is very spot-on & Shah Rukh Khan makes an appearance. Anushka Sharma & Ranbir Kapoor wear their characters like second skin so well, you won’t doubt why this is one of the top movies on Amazon Prime right now.
The Underground Railroad
This is actually a short series, but hear us out. Based on Colson Whitehead’s award-winning eponymous novel, the story of The Underground Railroad takes you through 19th century America.
Directed by Barry Jenkins of Moonlight fame, the early reviews for The Underground Railroad have been overwhelmingly positive. The novel had won the Pulitzer Prize, so we’re not surprised that the story has managed to make a mark as one of the top movies on Amazon Prime.
Normally, we’d think of a depiction of slavery on-screen as a journey of triumph despite suffering. But The Underground Railroad breaks that cliché. Instead, we look at daughters of slaves ready to break the cycle of intergenerational suffering. You have to watch it to feel it.
