Lorde is back with more music: Stream her leaked song now

Lorde has been off the radar since the release of her second studio album, Melodrama, back in 2017. The “Green Light” & “Royals” singer has been busy with other projects & life events. She mourned for her dog Pearl, who sadly passed away. In 2020, she released Going South, which is a book documenting her trip to Antarctica back in January 2019. 

Now, Lorde is gearing up to release her third album. The issue with that is, well, oh boy, there have been a lot of issues for Lorde trying to release her third album. There’s been leaks. You can stream her first song off of it now, “Solar Power”. Just what is going on here with Lorde? Here’s everything that you absolutely need to know about the issues going on with “Solar Power”.

A big return cut short

In the four years since her second album, Lorde has largely been keeping to herself. That’s not super surprising for the New Zealand singer, who is very moody & mysterious in her song style. And, hey, a lot of famous people try to keep a low profile. Lorde kept her fans up to date with her newsletter. She did a bunch of things that she wanted to do. She took time for Lorde.

Unfortunately, the build up to her big return was cut short when, well, “Solar Power” was leaked amongst other things. There were leaked early images of the cover art & title for “Solar Power”. Things got really bad, however, when a downloadable file was leaked online, spreading like wildfire through fans eager for something. While these things happen, it’s a real eff up when big companies accidentally leak it as well.

We don’t know who was snoozing over at Apple Music & TIDAL, but they put the song up as well. TIDAL even had details about the album itself up. Both websites rushed to pull it down. And Lorde was sitting in the middle of a PR disaster in regard to her new music. (Of course, she could just pull a Beyonce and drop it.) 

Is “Solar Power” good?

You can watch the music video for “Solar Power” up above. Honestly? Yeah. It’s pretty great. There’s something mellowy and beachy to it. With the acoustic guitar as a good counterpoint to Lore’s raspy voice. Unlike some of her previous moody work, “Solar Power” is actually a song about being carefree, just enjoying being outside and soaking up that sunlight.

Was Lorde feeling quarantine as badly as the rest of us? Probably, but “Solar Power” is still a pretty solid song all things considered. There’s just something breezy and mellow to the song. And it feels like a good song to welcome us all back to being outside and not having death hang over our every move. Well . . . no more than it usually does anyway. It’s a great song.

“Solar Power” is available to stream wherever you stream music: Spotify, TIDAL, Apple, Amazon. Pick your poison and give it a listen. Like we said, the music video is also live. Lorde’s third album, however, currently doesn’t have a release date so just keep enjoying the music that this talented artist is giving us.

And to the overeager people that leaked her stuff before she was ready to release it? Maybe just chill out & let her have her moment next time. We’ll get the album when it’s good & ready to come out.
