Getting to Know Mery Diamondz
Mery Diamondz is a singer/songwriter with a heart as big as her talent. All of her original music is about personal experiences she wants to share with her fans. Her newest single “Heartbeat” is about her beloved nephew. I recently caught up with Mery in between recording sessions to ask her about her career and get some tips for maintaining a healthy work/life balance.
- You recently released a new single called “Heartbeat”. Tell us about that single. What was the inspiration behind it?
I drew inspiration for the song “heartbeat” from the anticipation and joy surrounding the news of my sister expecting a boy. The universal experience of every woman hearing the rhythmic heartbeat in her stomach during pregnancy, symbolizes a profound connection and a beginning of a new chapter in life.
- “Heartbeat” is the 9th single you have released. What can you tell us about the other singles you’ve released?
My other singles draw from my personal life experiences, each song delving into a different aspect. One explores love, another delves into toxic relationships, while yet another reflects on gender identity, etc.
- What do you hope your audience takes away from listening to this new song?
I aim for people to resonate with the emotions conveyed in this song, experiencing the same excitement and connection that I felt when going through those experiences. You have a diverse repertoire and write your own music.
- How would you categorize your music? Do you write with a specific genre in mind or just write whatever you are feeling at the moment?
My music spans mostly R&B and pop genres, with the occasional ballad. I enjoy exploring various styles, drawing inspiration from my life experiences for each song.
- Have you ever performed live? If so, where have you performed and if not when can we see you perform?
After performing at a private Coachella event, I’m now considering expanding my presence with more shows in the future.
- You have been making music for a while now. How has your music changed as you have gotten more comfortable with the writing process?
Music has always been a comfortable space for me, and the more I write songs, the more natural it feels- like a second nature.
- How do you maintain a good work/life balance?
Maintaining a good work/life balance involves setting boundaries, prioritizing tasks, and making time for leisure activities.
- Can you tell us about the importance of giving back to the community, and are there specific causes that hold a special place in your heart?
It’s important for me to get back to the community because that’s a reflection of me and human trafficking is a very special place in my heart because there are so many young girls that are being trafficked and they’re never found again. I want to be the voice and the face for those young girls that are being abducted and help the cause that will help bring them back.
- When not immersed in the world of entertainment, what do you enjoy doing? How do these activities contribute to your overall well-being, and do they influence your approach to your craft?
I like to indulge in going out during my free time, especially when I’ve been working hard and need some personal time to recharge.
- Looking ahead, are there any specific projects or roles you aspire to take on in the future, and what goals do you have for your music career?
One of my goals is changing the industry and advocating for increased royalties to be provided to all the songwriters who aren’t getting paid enough for their work.
