Does Reddit provide the best dark jokes on the internet?
Did you know that in the early 1900s, Sigmund Freud had a hypothesis: that humor was a safe escape for people’s repressed emotions, sexual urges, aggressive tendencies, and the like? More recent research has actually shown that people who appreciate a dark sense of humor or have one are likely on the higher end of the IQ scale.
Even though it feels more obvious to assume that the grumpy recluse characters in your life would enjoy dark humor, it’s actually the chirpy, emotionally stable ones in the group who are likely to crack an inappropriate joke or laugh at one unapologetically.
We just want to make you feel good about all the times you chuckled at inappropriate times in social gatherings thinking of a really dark joke that would make everyone hate you. We’ve all come across some version of the joke with a kid, shovel, and dark night combination. All versions end — or begin, depending on how you see it — with the realization that the kid’s about to be . . . murdered? Like we said before, pedophile jokes are popular on Reddit. Some of these are also crafted well. Like this one: “Say what you will about pedophiles, at least they drive slowly through school zones.”
Dark humor on dark subjects
Racial injustice breaks our hearts, and dark humor can be a strategy to spread awareness about police brutality. Like in this one jokes, “How many policemen does it take to change a lightbulb? None. They arrest the bulb for being broke, and beat the room for being black.”
Knock-knock jokes
Consider this joke explained with the whole setup: Where did Susan go after the bomb fell? Everywhere. Often followed by: Knock Knock? Who’s there? Not Susan.
It isn’t the most well-crafted one, but you get the idea. It’s a re-usable idea. Just make it better.
