‘The Simpsons’ and ‘Loki’: When can we see Marvel’s upcoming movie?
Who are the biggest pop culture mischief-makers? In one corner, we have the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Loki (Tom Hiddleston). He’s the actual god of mischief, tried to take over the world, turned into a snake to stab his brother, likes to get up to all sorts of trouble. In the other corner, we have one Bartholomew J. Simpson: Prince of Pranks, El Barto, Skinner’s Bane.
With Disney owning both the Marvel and 20th Century studios, it’s not surprising that these two famous mischief-makers are set to team up in an upcoming short movie from the studio. We’re going to see Loki & Bart Simpson doing what they do best. Or, well, bring out the worst in each other. Either way, we’re certain that Homer Simpson will not be the same at the end of it.
So when can we see this upcoming short movie from Marvel? How will Loki & Bart Simpson team up? Is Tom Hiddleston reprising his role as Loki in the short? Will it air on Disney+ or appear before a Disney movie in theatres? Here’s absolutely everything that you need to know about the upcoming movie.
The basics
The short is called “The Good, the Bart, and the Loki”, which is a play on the classic Western The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. Details on the short have been kept minimal, but you can see a poster above. It certainly looks like Lisa Simpson is going to be Thor. So, you know, good for her. According to EW, yes, that is really & truly Hiddleston reprising his role as Loki in the short.
The basic premise follows Loki “as he’s banished from Asgard and has to face off against his toughest opponents yet: the Simpsons and Springfield’s mightiest heroes. Loki teams up with Bart in the crossover event, which promises to pay tribute to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.” This isn’t the first time that the House of Mouse has crossed over The Simpsons with other IPs.
There was another short that saw The Simpsons meet Star Wars with “The Force Awakens From Its Nap”. Now whether or not this will tie into the Loki series remains to be seen. But, who knows, this could be an animated Loki variant. The possibilities are genuinely endless with that little tidbit thrown in. “The Good, the Bart, and the Loki” will hit Disney+ on July 7.
Will this be good?
Listen, maybe. Later stage Simpsons is hit or miss at the best of times, but Tom Hiddleston always brings him A-game as Loki. Did he give the writers for the short a Loki Lecture? Probably not. We’re so curious about that Loki Lecture though. Just film that and make it a bonus episode of Loki. C’mon, Marvel, we’re all so curious to see just what it entails.
Still, you can’t find two more mischievous characters than Loki and Bart Simpson. Who knows what havoc that the pair will wreck throughout Springfield (and maybe even the Nine Realms). Though, honestly, we’re more curious to see if other Marvel actors based on Asgard, like Chris Hemsworth, will pop up in the short. Either way, it promises to be a fun time for all involved.
