‘Secret Invasion’: Why is Emilia Clarke joining this Marvel TV show?
Marvel has a great many projects in the works at the moment. Many of those projects are for their bustling MCU TV shows. Three have already been released to the public on Disney+ with WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Loki. But there are even more incoming to the fans who eagerly want more of the MCU. This year alone we should be expecting Hawkeye and Ms. Marvel.
One project that has fans very intrigued in Secret Invasion. Based on the event storyline, the TV show was announced with a bunch of other series including confirmation of Moon Knight, Armor Wars, Ironheart, and more. So far, details about Secret Invasion have been kept fairly underwraps. Isn’t that always the case with MCU properties though?
Well, good news, we do have confirmation of an actor’s involvement in the upcoming Marvel TV show. Listen, we always hear about “talks” over an actor’s involvement in a project. So it’s always nice to get some confirmation of who is actually going to be involved, you know? With that in mind, let’s dive into everything we know about Secret Invasion.
From Mother of Dragons to alien invasion
Emilia Clarke, best known for her role as Daenerys Targaryen on HBO’s Game of Thrones, confirmed her involvement in the upcoming Marvel TV show during an interview with Jimmy Fallon. Honestly? That’s all that Clarke was able to confirm, admitting to Fallon that she was nervous that she could spill too many beans on the series.
She said, “I’m already scared. The first people I spoke to from Marvel were their security team and I am convinced that there is a man outside my house. There’s been a car parked there for a long time, and I swear to God, he’s undercover.” Unsurprising, Marvel keeps their security tight and, so far, only Tom Holland & Mark Ruffalo have survived accidental spoilers.
It was announced months ago that Clarke & The Crown’s Olivia Colman were in talks for Marvel’s Secret Invasion. Also in the cast is Kingsley Ben-Adhir (One Night in Miami) in a villain role. We do know that Samuel L Jackson will reprise his role as Nick Fury and Ben Mendelsohn is set to reprise his Captain Marvel role of Skrull leader Talos from Captain Marvel.
So what is Secret Invasion about?
Right so we don’t know how things will differ from the comics to the MCU. This is important because in Secret Invasion, the Skrulls, portrayed as refugees in the MCU, are a galactic warlike race who have replaced key members of Earth with Skrull imposters in order to, well, take over the world. The animated series Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes also brought the storyline to life as well, if you’re curious about it.
What we do know is that Spider-Man: Far From Home has a post-credit scene of Nick Fury being released from a pod as Talos, who has been posing as Fury, converses with another Skrull, who has been posing as Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders). As for what that means? No idea, but we have a feeling that it’s going to tie into the upcoming event series in a huge way.
Outside of that, we’re going to have to wait & see for the upcoming series in order to get an idea of just how things have changed from the comic storyline. Either way, we’re excited to see the role that Clarke will play either playing a Skrull, a human, or being a new hero to the board in the MCU, it’s going to be an absolutely fun time.
