‘Mulan’, ‘Dumbo’ and more: Watch these live-action remakes on Disney Plus

There’s nothing wrong with rewatching classic animated Disney films like 101 Dalmations, Dumbo, Alice In Wonderland, and all the Disney Princesses. However, with something to be defined as a classic, it means it’s difficult to recreate and couldn’t be compared to another film during that time.

However, time after time, Disney has decided that the next generation needs to experience these classic stories, so they’ve remade these animated films and created a live-action version. And as fun as it may sound, live-action films can actually spark quite the debate, but let’s take a look at some of the good & bad live-actions on Disney Plus.

Mulan

You might not classify Mulan as a Disney Princess because she’s technically a bada** warrior, but let us remind you that while she fights for China, she gets the guy, a title, and brings honor to her family’s name, Mulan makes the world a better & safer place and looks amazing doing it. However, does the remake reflect the same ideals?

In the animated Mulan (1998), Disney portrays an incredibly fierce Disney Princess and with the help of her guardian dragon Mushu, she passes every test and becomes the soldier she’s wanted to become. But with the 2020 live-action remake, starring Liu Yifei, there’s been a lot of speculation about the adaptation filmed in parts of China where critics cited some major controversy.

According to The Guardian, films critics slammed the live-action Mulan for filming in Xinjiang which has allegedly been the site of “widespread human rights abuses against Uighurs and other Muslim minorities”. Since then, many have boycotted the film, but it’s still on Disney Plus so you can create your own opinion about the film.

Lady and The Tramp

If you’ve never watched the animated version of Lady and The Tramp, then maybe you should watch the 2019 live-action first so you have nothing to compare it to.

However, if you’ve watched the original 1955 Lady and The Tramp, then take a minute to forget the romantic setting of spaghetti & meatballs, and imagine your dogs running around the neighborhood falling in love. It’s still a pretty cute picture with Tessa Thompson (Lady) & Justin Theroux (Tramp), and you can watch the live-action on Disney Plus!

Alice In Wonderland

A movie nobody saw coming was Disney’s Alice In Wonderland (2010) starring Johnny Depp as The Mad Hatter and Mia Wasikowska as Alice. The film took live-action to a whole new level with director Tim Burton. In fact, this live-action won an Academy Award for Best Costume Design & Production Design. You can enjoy the out-of-this-world film on Disney Plus!

Beauty and the Beast

Unlike Disney’s Mulan, Beauty and the Beast (2017) only received whopping reviews thanks to its neutral location and of course Harry Potter’s Emma Watson. This live-action remake brings the love story to life and yes, we’d love to be their “guests”. You can watch the enchanting tale of Belle & the Beast on Disney Plus.

The Lion King

Who can forget The Lion King (2019) with The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau. This live-action remake was the talk of cinema with Beyonce, James Earl Jones, Donald Glover, and comedian Seth Rogan.

According to Screenrant, the film didn’t make as much of a success as the hype of the film may have had as it “was too similar to the animated film” (1994). So if you haven’t watched the original, get ready for the time of your life with Disney Plus!

Aladdin

For those wondering how Will Smith would look as a blue hip genie . . . you’ve got to check out the live-action remake of Disney’s Aladdin (2019)! Just like Mulan & Beauty and The Beast, the film tries to bring a magical Disney Princess tale into the real world, because after all – Disney is “where dreams come true!”

Not only does the film star Lemonade Mouth’s Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine and Mena Massoud as Aladdin, but it brings the love story to a whole new level. We get to experience wishes like it was our own. What are you waiting for? Check out Disney Plus!

There’s plenty more to pick from like the elephant who flies in the live-action remake Dumbo, or who doesn’t love the Glenn Close 101 Dalmatians remake. Which Disney live-action remake is your favorite? And which do you think was a complete swing & miss? Let us know in the comments below.
