Get to know all of Chrishell Stause’s exes – not just Hartley
Chrishell Stause is one of the most popular cast members on Selling Sunset, and season 3 is currently running on Netflix. Her rather abrupt divorce was plot fodder for the show in season 2 when Stause learned of the filing by text, and on camera, a mere forty-five minutes before it hit the news. Yet, Hartley isn’t the only famous star ex in Stause’s life.
Ignominious indignity
In January 2014, it was confirmed that Stause and This Is Us star Justin Hartley were dating. In 2016, the couple announced their engagement, and in October 2017 they tied the knot. Sadly, in November 2019, Hartley filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. Stause filed for dissolution of the marriage in December 2019.
Hartley filed for divorce shortly after their second wedding anniversary. Strangely enough, he listed their date of separation as July 8. But the couple had several public outings together after that date. Stause posted a photo of the pair at The Hollywood Reporter Golden Globes party the week before his filing.
Six months after filing for divorce from Stause, Hartley had indeed moved on. TMZ published photos of Hartley kissing former Young and the Restless star Sofia Pernas. Pernas is familiar with both Hartley & Stause, as she co–starred alongside the couple on Young and the Restless in 2016. A February post from Hartley suggests he & Pernas adopted a new dog together prior to news of their relationship breaking.
Previous partner
However, despite Hartley’s bad form, he isn’t the first well-known star in Stause’s life, she was previously engaged to Matthew Morrison from December 2006 to 2007. The forty-one year old Morrison hails from California and started his career in musical theatre, making his debut on Broadway in the musical Footloose.
However, he is popularly known for his role as Will Schuester, on Glee. While doing the show between 2009 and 2015, he was nominated for Golden Globe Awards, Primetime Emmy Awards, and Screen Actors Guild Award. More recently, between 2019 and 2020, he was featured as a judge in BBC One’s The Greatest Dancer.
Morrison has also recorded a number of studio albums. He starred in films such as What to Expect When You’re Expecting and The Muppets. He’s also had a number of TV roles including Trevor Kirchner in American Horror Story: 1984, and as a judge on The Greatest Dancer.
Rapid romance
Stause & Morrison met in 2006 and quickly became engaged. The engagement was broken off almost as quickly. He said, “When I was twenty-seven, I proposed to my then-girlfriend, but I didn’t do it for the right reasons; we’d been going out for a year or so, and I felt under pressure from society.”
Morrison added, “I was thinking, ‘This is the age when I should probably start having kids, so this is what I should do.’ But after I did it, I immediately felt in my heart it wasn’t right. My instant thought was ‘What did you just do?’”
Stause briefly mentioned her ex-boyfriend in episode 4 of Selling Sunset season 1. During a confessional, she said, “I didn’t know who I was at twenty-five, and I didn’t know what I wanted because actually, if I ended up with the person I was with when I was twenty-five, I would want to kill myself.” She added, “. . . You were a d*ck! Sorry.”
