When will ‘Where the Crawdads Sing’ movie adaptation drop?

Sony Pictures released the news earlier this year that the movie version of Where the Crawdads Sing will premiere on June 24th, 2022. The movie is an adaptation of Delia Owens’ novel of the same name. Where the Crawdads Sing is directed by Olivia Newman & stars Daisy Edgar-Jones.

Where the Crawdads Sing centers on an independent young woman named Kya (Edgar-Jones). In the mid-20th century South, Kya lives on her own in the marshes near a small town after her family leaves her. Kya becomes a murder suspect when her ex-boyfriend turns up dead. She must deal with the locals & authorities who presume her guilty.

A mix of bildungsroman & crime movie, Where the Crawdads Sing effortlessly blends genre. Additionally, the plot explores themes of human connection, young romance, and courage. While Where the Crawdads Sing is a highly-anticipated movie, there are plenty of other releases to look forward to in 2022.

The Batman

By now, you’ve probably seen the trailer of Robert Pattinson donning the cape & cowl to “Something In The Way” by Nirvana. The trailer for The Batman presents a new version of Gotham City’s dark & gritty existence. This version of the beloved comic book franchise seems to take inspiration from Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy instead of the Zack Snyder films.

Many fans questioned the choice of Pattinson as Bruce Wayne. Perhaps the Twilight franchise left too much of a stain on the actor. However, Robert has proven his acting prowess over recent years with stellar performances in films like Good Time & The Lighthouse. The Batman will also star Zoë Kravitz, Paul Dano, and Colin Farrell. The move is set for release on March 4th, 2022.

Death on the Nile

Actor/director Kenneth Branagh is having a bit of a renaissance at the moment. His 2021 film Belfast is in consideration by some critics to be a contender for the Academy Award for Best Picture. Not only that, but next year he’ll have a film adaptation of Agatha Christie’s Death on the Nile. The mystery thriller movie is scheduled to hit theaters on February 11th, 2022.

Branagh will star as Hercule Poirot in Death on the Nile as well as direct it. Beside him, he’s cast Wonder Woman superstar Gal Gadot to play Linnet Ridgeway-Doyle. Armie Hammer, who’s caused a slew of controversy on social media, will portray Simon Doyle. The cast is rounded out by Annette Bening, Russell Brand, Ali Fazal, and Dawn French.

Uncharted

The movie adaptation of the Uncharted video game series will be released on February 18th, 2022. Fans of the popular franchise have desired a film version for years, yet didn’t know who’d be fit to play the protagonist Nathan Drake. They got their answer when the trailer for Uncharted dropped & saw Tom Holland in the lead role.

Holland has been a leading man in Hollywood ever since he filled the role of Spider-man in the MCU. While Holland has blockbuster potential, he’s also showcased his poise as a dramatic actor in films like The Devil All the Time. Uncharted will also star Mark Wahlberg as Drake’s mentor Victor Sullivan. Sophia Taylor Ali, Tati Gabrielle, and Antonio Banderas are also featured.

Top Gun: Maverick

While Tom Cruise will star in Mission: Impossible 7 in 2022, he’ll also appear in the long-awaited follow-up to Top Gun. Over thirty-five years since the original, Tom Cruise will appear again as Pete Mitchell in Top Gun: Maverick. Val Kilmer will also reprise his role as Iceman in the movie.

Top Gun: Maverick will also star Jennifer Connelly, Miles Teller, Jon Hamm, and Ed Harris. Jerry Bruckheimer is producing & Paramount Pictures will handle distribution.

Where the Crawdads Sing is just one of the many movies to get hyped for in 2022. What films are you excited to see next year? Let us know in the comments!
