Does this footage prove Brian Laundrie abused Gabby Petito?
America’s biggest missing person story since the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic was announced continues to grip the country. Gabby Petito is the name on dozens of reporters’ lips from publications across the board since she went missing earlier this summer.
However, Petito isn’t the only name shredding headlines reporting about her tragic passing, as authorities continue to investigate the people who may be responsible for the young woman’s disappearance & murder.
Brian Laundrie, Petito’s ex-boyfriend, continues to come up in stories investigating Gabby’s tragic passing. Laundrie is the last person Petito was seen with when the two took a cross-country road trip immediately before Petito’s disappearance. Now, new footage of the former couple raises even further questions about Laundrie’s involvement. Here’s what we’ve found.
New footage
Brian Laundrie has been mentioned in connection to Gabby Petito’s murders from dozens of publications since the story went viral over the summer.
Stories have reported allegations that the couple had a turbulent relationship. Reports point to some of the last moments the couple were seen together, when the two had an altercation which led to police involvement during their road trip.
Fox News reported on Friday that new police bodycam footage has been released from the couple’s infamous fight in Utah. Reports say Gabby Petito told a Utah cop Laundrie hit her back on August 12th when the two spoke to authorities after a witness saw the couple fighting.
Recently found footage from a second Moab, Utah police officer at the scene reveals new details from the altercation. Reports say Petito first told cops that Brian Laundrie had hit her, but then changed her story to paint herself as the aggressor after being questioned.
Gabby’s words
The footage leads investigators to wonder if the two had an abusive relationship, with Petito blaming herself for the fight, like so many battered women before her. So what are the details the new footage has revealed?
When asked if she was hit by Laundrie in the original body cam video, Gabby Petito is quoted saying, “I guess, yea . . . But I hit him first . . . He didn’t like hit me in the face . . . He didn’t like punch me in the face or anything . . . Well, he like, grabbed me with his nail, and I guess that’s why it looks, I definitely have a cut right here . . . I can feel it, when I touch it it burns”.
Reports say Petito was rubbing her cheek when referring to the cut. In the most recent video released from Moab police, Petito is quoted saying, “He got really frustrated with me, and he locked me out of the car and told me to go take a breather, but I didn’t want to take a breather . . . and I wanted to get going. We’re out of water”.
Murky details
The details of the Utah altercation are still murky at best, and witness testimony seems to raise even further questions. When asked if they saw Laundrie strike Petito, a witness is quoted saying, “I wouldn’t say that . . . I think I saw maybe a push or a shove, but not a full-on punch to a face or anything”.
The bodycam footage doesn’t seem to implicate Brian Laundrie in the disappearance of Gabby Petito as much as his actions upon returning home from the former couple’s road trip. Reports say Laundrie returned home from the trip without Petito in her van on September 1st.
Furthermore, Laundrie is currently missing amid the FBI investigation in the high-profile Gabby Petito case, now ruled a homicide. Federal authorities haven’t yet released the recently examined additional body cam footage. Brian Laundrie has still not been located, as the investigation into the murder of Gabby Petito rages on.
