Which celebrities are standing with Ellen DeGeneres and her wife?
Ellen DeGeneres’s wife, Portia de Rossi, took to Instagram recently to share her support for Ellen amidst the allegations of Ellen’s mean behavior. De Rossi posted the hashtag “I Stand By Ellen” and asked for Ellen’s fans to show their support.
The bad behavior coupled with staff claims of a racist & intimidating workplace behind The Ellen Degeneres Show has made many skeptical of Ellen’s “nice” image. Several celebrities have made statements that back up those accusing Ellen of being mean. Then there are others who have taken up her wife’s cause and have stood by Ellen. Take a look at the celebrities that have come forward in support of Ellen DeGeneres.
Ashton Kutcher
Well-known actor Ashton Kutcher tweeted in support of Ellen writing, “I haven’t spoken with @TheEllenShow and can only speak from my own experience. She & her team have only treated me & my team w/ respect & kindness. She never pandered to celebrity which I always saw as a refreshing honesty. When things aren’t right she handles it and fixes.”
Some who saw Kutcher’s tweet reminded the actor that many of the allegations against Ellen were from staff and not necessarily her celebrity guests. Kutcher replied to those comments by saying he had seen Ellen do the same for, “my team and people she didn’t even know I work with.”
Nacho Figueras
Nacho Figueras, a prolific Argentinian polo player, also had something to say about Ellen’s current situation. On August 2, Figueras posted on Instagram: “[Ellen] makes the world a better place for millions of people everyday and we cannot hit her because something may have not been perfect. No one is perfect, and we cannot control everything.”
Figueras then went on to challenge others to support Ellen, even tagging a number of celebrities in his post such as Jennifer Aniston, Michelle Obama, Jennifer Lopez, Lady Gaga, and Justin Timberlake.
Katy Perry
Katy Perry was one celebrity called out in Nacho Figueras’s Instagram post which might have rallied her to write her tweet in support of Ellen. Perry acknowledged that her experience with Ellen might be different, but she went on to say, “I think we all have witnessed the light & continual fight for equality that she has brought to the world through her platform for decades. Sending you love & a hug, friend @TheEllenShow.”
Scooter Braun
Music manager Scooter Braun had something to say about the people making mean accusations against Ellen in a tweet Braun posted on July 31. Scooter Braun wrote, “People love to take shots. They love to see people fall. How quickly so many forget. How easy it is to stay quiet when it doesn’t effect [sic] them.” Braun then encouraged Ellen to “keep your head held high.”
Kevin Hart
Kevin Hart has been on The Ellen DeGeneres Show multiple times and alongside Ellen, the two comedians have shared many jokes between them. Hart is another who expressed his opinions over social media and gave his support to Ellen as his friend.
Hart also acknowledged that he spoke about his own personal relationship with Ellen by stating, “This post is not meant to disregard the feelings of others and their experiences . . . It’s simply to show what my experiences have been with my friend.”
Samantha Ronson
Samantha Ronson, a former DJ for The Ellen DeGeneres Show, also tweeted out in support of her former boss. Ronson jumped in by addressing her tweet as an “unpopular opinion”. She then wrote about Ellen being a great boss, saying, “. . . for years and she has ALWAYS been respectful and kind to me.”
Diane Keaton
Diane Keaton made her thoughts known through Instagram when she posted a photo of an appearance she made on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Keaton claimed in her post that she only ever saw a happy & grateful audience in her visits to the show. Keaton ended by saying in her all-caps text, “SHE [Ellen] GIVES BACK TO SO MANY INCLUDING ME.”
Jerry O’Connell
Jerry O’Connell responded to Portia’s Instagram post about her wife by reposting the “I Stand With Ellen” picture complete with the simple caption: “Love @TheEllenShow & @portiaderossi Always have. Always will.”
