It’s the weekend: Celebrate with these memes about drinking

The COVID-19 pandemic resulted in record levels of alcohol sales & consumption. With bars & restaurants finally reopening their doors, people everywhere are ready to go out & have a good time. Alcohol loosens inhibitions & increases comradery. It can also result in hilarious antics.

Interestingly enough, a lot of the memes about drinking you will find on the internet feature television characters. Peter Griffin & Homer Simpson are known drinkers. Yet there are other figures from live-action TV we’ll list in this article.

Most of us can relate to a time when we’ve had too much alcohol. Sometimes you wake up with a hangover. Other times you wake up to find out you did something ridiculous the night before. In honor of Oktoberfest, here are some outrageous memes about drinking.

Tyrion & alcohol

The HBO series Game of Thrones has been the source for plenty of memes. Some of the best memes about drinking feature Tyrion Lannister. Peter Dinklage’s character is known to imbibe, often with comical results. One of the popular memes about drinking on Google Images features a quote from the famous Lannister.

The meme shows Tyrion pouring himself a glass of wine, saying “there are two things that I do well; drink, and know things.” Another quotable Tyrion line is used on another meme. Tyrion says to his squire Podrick (Daniel Portman) that “it’s not easy being drunk all the time. Everyone would do it if it were easy.”

Perhaps the most succinct of the Tyrion memes about drinking is the one that shows his age progression throughout the series. The top half of the meme shows a screenshot from early in Game of Thrones of Tyrion drinking. It’s accompanied by the words “last night.” The bottom half shows a grizzled & bearded Peter Dinklage with the caption “this morning.”

Michael Scott cringing

The moment on The Office when Michael Scott (Steve Carell) bites his lip in anguish has been turned into tons of memes. It’s also become one of the funniest & most real memes about drinking on the internet.

The meme originates from episode seven of season three entitled “Branch Closing” when Michael learns that the Scranton branch may shut down. The drinking meme in question features the words “my face when someone tells me what I did when I was drunk.”

Even Michael Scott can relate to this sentiment. Viewers of The Office may remember when Michael & Jan Levinson (Melora Hardin) share a few drinks after a business meeting at Chili’s. The two end up kissing afterward, something that Jan initially regrets. Michael doesn’t necessarily feel bad about it. He may regret it after their trip to Sandals Jamaica.

Ron Swanson

Another television character who has a place in the pantheon of memes about drinking is Ron Swanson (Nick Offerman) from Parks & Recreation. One meme template that’s been used quite a bit originates from episode one of season five entitled “Mrs. Knope Goes to Washington.”

The meme shows Ron Swanson handing a park official a piece of paper. He says “Not to worry. I have a permit.” The paper says “I can do what I want -Ron.” In this drinking meme, the text at the top of the image simply says “When I drink.” Those who drink can relate to a time when alcohol made them feel as confident as Ron Swanson.

There are plenty of other great Ron Swanson memes about drinking. Most of them are simply screencaps from Parks & Recreation. One brutally honest one comes from when Ron gets sick. Nurse Ann Perkins (Rashida Jones) questions him about his drinking habits. She asks “How many drinks of alcohol do you consume a week?”

Ron responds by saying “One.” Ann is surprised, saying “That’s it, one drink?” Ron corrects himself by saying “one shelf.” The bounty of great memes about drinking featuring Ron Swanson proves that he’s still a legend.
