Does Drake Bell’s arrest mean the ‘Drake and Josh’ movie is cancelled?
Are all hopes for a new Drake and Josh movie finally lost? Drake Bell has been indicted on charges of attempted endangering children and disseminating matter harmful to children. Bell is known for his role as Drake in the stepbrother duo sitcom which premiered on Nickelodeon in 2004.
Many fans have been hoping for an upcoming Drake and Josh movie revival or perhaps even a new series. However, with Drake Bell’s numerous legal issues and previous scandals, it’s uncertain if the project will ever come to light.
Drake Bell faces charges in Ohio
The thirty-four-year-old actor’s mugshot is timestamped as taken on June 3rd. However, his alleged crime took place nearly four years ago. According to court documents, the date of his offense was recorded as December 1st, 2017 in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. It was also on this day the Los Angeles resident tweeted he would be having a concert in Cleveland, Ohio.
On Thursday, Drake Bell pleaded not guilty to the charges and waived the reading of the indictment. A personal bond was set for $2,500 which he posted that same day. The conditions of his bond were to have no further contact with the victim and to submit a DNA specimen.
Drake Bell’s first pretrial will be held on June 23rd. Bell’s attorney Ian Friedman declined to comment on the charges, and it’s still unclear as to what Bell did to be indicted with these specific charges.
Drake Bell’s previous allegations
It was just last August that the singer & actor found himself in a scandal. Bell faced abuse allegations made by his ex-girlfriend who released a tell-all TikTok. In the video posted on August 12th, Melissa Lingafelt claimed that Drake Bell had verbally and physically abused her during their two year relationship when she was sixteen years old.
Lingafelt, who is now thirty-one, stated: “This is my truth. I hope this message reaches young girls, and that no one has to go through what I did.” The TikTok video had garnered more than 4.3 million views.
Drake Bell responded: “As our relationship ended — more than a decade ago — we, unfortunately, both called each other terrible names, as often happens when couples are breaking up. But that is it,” he said. “Clearly, Melissa still felt close enough to me just last year that she was comfortable reaching out to ask me to provide her with financial support during a tough time (which I did).”
What does this mean for a possible Drake and Josh reboot?
If the chances of a Drake and Josh movie were already slim then it just got even slimmer. Fans have been waiting years for any news about a possible movie or even a reboot series; however, no concrete news of an official movie has been announced.
Drake Bell has previously hinted at the possibility of the iconic stepbrother combo appearing on the big screen. Bell stated that the new Drake and Josh movie or series “is going to be way more creative, way cooler than just, you know, the college years or something like that,” Bell continued. “We knew that if we were ever going to come back, it’s got to be something cool. I’m excited to see what the fans think.”
Further details about the possible revival have yet to be revealed. If Drake Bell is unable to stay out of trouble, we can surely kiss the improbable remake goodbye.
The Drake and Josh reunion you probably missed
Back in 2016, the Drake and Josh reunion happened without most fans even knowing. Drake Bell was a guest star in Josh Peck’s show Grandfathered which also featured John Stamos. Peck plays an app developer trying to make it big who meets Bell, a wealthy Silicon Valley genius.
Although the two aren’t playing their original Drake and Josh roles, the episode is filled with fun references to the Nickelodeon sitcom. Bell’s character points out how Peck resembles his stepbrother – who’s actually in jail for stalking Oprah Winfrey. Every Drake and Josh fan understands the reference to Josh’s bizarre obsession with Winfrey. The two even do their famous “hug me brotha!” line in the episode’s ending.
Since the show Grandfathered only lasted one season and went relatively under the radar, most people never realized that the two reunited! If all goes well for Drake Bell, perhaps we’ll get to see the stepbrothers together once again – perhaps, with their borderline psychotic sister Megan, played by Miranda Cosgrove.
