Did Scarlett Johansson win her lawsuit with Disney over this movie?
The Black Widow lawsuit has finally been settled. The movie with Scarlett Johansson has long been contested due to the suit Johansson filed against Disney, claiming that the company breached the contract after releasing the movie with Scarlett Johansson in a hybrid-release, costing her millions of dollars in bonuses.
The movie with Scarlett Johansson has stirred up quite a bit of tea as Disney and ScarJo flung unusually personal insults at each other, giving Twitter fresh tea and a new debate, one that clearly still hasn’t died down even after the announcement of the settlement hit the internet.
Of course, this Twitter debate is now arguing over that settlement for the movie with Scarlett Johansson in order to keep this tea alive. We searched through the internet to find more information and the best reactions to the news. Take on the Red Room once more as we dive into the Black Widow settlement.
Weaponizing words
One of the biggest aspects of this case has been the unusually personal insults Disney had thrown ScarJo’s way, stating that she had a “callous disregard for the horrific and prolonged global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
The studio had tried to force the suit into arbitration, stating the contract had to privatize the dispute, yet the statements just kept coming. CAA co-chairman Bryan Lourd had pointed out the clear hostility from Disney as a way of weaponizing her success against her, as she had been paid $20 million dollars for her work on the film.
“Disney’s direct attack on her character and all else they implied is beneath the company that many of us in the creative community have worked with successfully for decades,” Lourd said according to Variety. Yet, despite all of the hostility, they managed to settle, leaving many wondering just what the settlement entailed.
Friends again?
While terms for the settlement were not disclosed, Johansson had sought a $50 million payout from the studio. If that had been given, we can see why she is suddenly happy to get back to work with the House of Mouse.
“I am happy to have resolved our differences with Disney,” Johansson said in a statement on Thursday. “I’m incredibly proud of the work we’ve done together over the years and have greatly enjoyed my creative relationship with the team. I look forward to continuing our collaboration in years to come.” Disney seems just as happy to have her back, as Alan Bergman, the chairman of Disney Studios Content, also made a statement.
I’m very pleased that we have been able to come to a mutual agreement with Scarlett Johansson regarding ‘Black Widow,’” he said according to Variety. “We appreciate her contributions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and look forward to working together on a number of upcoming projects, including Disney’s ‘Tower of Terror.’” Though we don’t know the terms, considering these niceties, it was probably a heck of a settlement.
Good. Hope she got paid. Everyone knows that putting a movie on a streaming service means that it'll be pirated about 15 minutes after it's released.

Twitter is still sipping
Naturally, news of the settlement reached Twitter, continuing the debate from fans but giving some good news to those who sided with ScarJo. Reactions include:
I wonder if Disney will now apologise for accusing Scarlett of showing a "callous disregard for the horrific and prolonged global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Your guess is as good as ours on that front.
Damn I wish we got to know what the terms of settlement was since both Disney & Scar Jo said they are excited to work with each other in the future.

We’d also like a peek at that settlement . . . .
The Disney/Marvel contract would have been part of all depositions if this had gone to litigation. Am glad she got what she needed; but anyone out here thinking Disney did this for any other reason than to ensure obfuscation of those contracts needs to think again.

Not sure what half of that meant, but yes.
Ok sweet so she can be in What If…? season 2

That would be epic!
Scarlett Johansson deserves it, Disney did her dirty and then directed shade her way when she had always been a "team player"
