How did Alec Baldwin kill someone on the ‘Rust’ movie set?
Just when you thought celebrity news couldn’t get any stranger, you check up on the ol’ feed during a week like this one. Alec Baldwin has to be used to being the focus of celebrity tea stories at this point. The famed actor has ripped up headlines throughout his career, and they have often put him in a less-than-positive light.
From Baldwin’s various arrests to the infamous voicemail he left for his daughter, the actor has been criticized by the media time & time again. However, Baldwin has never gotten himself into hot water like we’ve seen this week.
Publications across the board are pumping out stories about Alec Baldwin on the set of one of his newest movies, Rust. Rumors say Baldwin has been involved in a death on set. So what really happened? Here’s what we’ve found.
The New York Post dropped a story on Thursday saying Alec Baldwin fatally shot a cinematographer on set of one of his latest movies, Rust.
Furthermore, reports say Baldwin injured the film’s director as well, in what publications are calling a mishap with an on-set prop. These snippets of information beg the question, how could a prop mishap end in death on such a highly regulated environment as a movie set? Aren’t sets of movies supposed to be extremely safe?
Reports say the death comes from an apparent tragic accident on set. The accident is said to have been caused by a faulty prop. The upcoming Rust is a western film which is being filmed on location in Sante Fe, New Mexico. As you would imagine, prop guns are being used in the upcoming feature. However, Alec Baldwin was apparently handed a faulty prop gun which left two of the movie’s crew injured, one fatally.
A production spokesperson for Rust told Deadline, “There was an accident today on the New Mexico set of ‘Rust’ involving the misfire of a prop gun with blanks”. It is unclear as to what exactly happened in the accident on set. Did someone hand Baldwin a gun with active ammunition for the shoot?
Bullet or shrapnel
Nothing definitive has been stated yet, although a source told TMZ either a bullet or shrapnel struck two of the crew on set. Now interested parties are wondering just who was hit on set.
Reports say both director Joel Souza and director of photography Halyna Hutchins were stuck on set during the tragic misfire. Hutchins was taken to University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque via airlift after being hit on set. Tragically, she passed away due to the extent of her injuries.
Director Joel Souza was treated for his injuries at Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center in Santa Fe. Following Hutchins’s tragic death, fans have been sending their condolences to the late cinematographer on social media, while police investigators have begun their search for answers surrounding the apparent accident on set. Why did the prop misfire, and who is responsible?
The Santa Fe sheriff’s office is investigating the bizarre tragedy on set. The office is quoted saying, “Detectives are investigating how and what type of projectile was discharged”. Furthermore, Alec Baldwdin was among the individuals questioned by authorities immediately following the tragic incident.
Rust’s production company is quoted saying, “The entire cast and crew has been absolutely devastated by today’s tragedy, and we send our deepest condolences to Halyna’s family and loved ones”. Baldwin was understandably described in reports as distraught & confused following the unfortunate incident which befell the cast & crew.
Details have yet to be revealed surrounding the reason for the incident, and no charges have yet been made against any of the cast & crew of Rust or any other individuals surrounding the case.
