Has Angelina Jolie’s net worth changed after the divorce?

Angelina Jolie is Hollywood royalty. For many, the word celebrity instantly evokes Jolie, who has been in films since she was a child in the early 80s. She is one of the most powerful & influential women in Hollywood.

No stranger to controversy, Jolie’s private life is frequently dissected in the gossip columns. Despite her 2016 divorce from Brad Pitt, her net worth has done nothing but climb throughout her career.

Jolie’s net worth is estimated to be nearly $160 million. While Pitt’s net worth is believed to be nearly $300 million, the former couple’s wealth is likely still in flux pending their custody arrangement.

Big bucks

Angelina Jolie has had an impressive film career that has seen her become one of Hollywood’s biggest action stars. Her net worth is only going to increase as she is set to earn $35.5 million for starring in Marvel’s Eternals. Jolie is consistently listed on Forbes list of the highest-paid actresses.

In 2014, Angelina Jolie starred in Maleficent, a role that netted her a $33 million paycheck. She reprised her role in the sequel, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, which paid her around $28 million.

Angelina Jolie was paid $120 million in film salaries from 2001 to 2011. She took home $7 million for the first Tomb Raider movie in 2001. Later in the decade, her net worth would continue its upward trajectory. 2010’s action film Salt paid Jolie $20 million.

Divorce

As you might be able to imagine, a divorce between two of Hollywood’s biggest stars is expensive. Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt’s divorce has been messy & has cost the two an absurd amount of money, though it hardly makes a dent in either’s net worth.

The two spend thousands of dollars an hour on lawyers. Though Jolie filed for divorce in 2016, the case for custody of the couple’s children has stretched on for years. The couple reached a custody agreement in 2018, however, it appears that it has fallen through as proceedings have begun again.

The case is not your standard legal battle. The two stars hired a private judge to mediate in order to protect their family’s privacy. It is believed that their judge, John Ouderkirk, costs nearly $10,000 a day. Jolie disagreed with their private judge’s ruling, and a California appeals court agreed with her, removing Ouderkirk from their case.

Property

Angelina Jolie has built up a sizable fortune over the course of her career. Jolie currently owns a house that is fit for Hollywood royalty. Her house in Hollywood’s Los Feliz neighborhood was once the home of legendary film director Cecil B. DeMille. DeMille purchased the mansion in 1916. The six-bedroom, ten-bathroom mansion cost Jolie $24.5 million.

The DeMille house is actually cheap compared to the French estate she & former husband Brad Pitt purchased in 2011. The couple reportedly purchased the Chateau Miraval for $67 million. The seventeenth-century estate sits at the end of an ancient Roman road, sprawls across 1,200 acres, and is home to an award-winning vineyard.

The couple fought over the property in court, with Jolie saying it should belong to her because she wanted to buy it in the first place. Pitt refused and the couple still shares ownership of the property & vineyard.

Jolie also owns property in Cambodia. The actress filmed Tomb Raider in the country in 2000, before returning two years later to adopt her first child, Maddox. Jolie has run a humanitarian charity in the country for years. Jolie directed First They Killed My Father in 2017 about the atrocities carried out by the authoritarian Khmer Rouge who ruled Cambodia in the 1970s.
