Producer Morris S. Levy’s New Rom-Com A BROOKLYN LOVE STORY, Brings Together Stars from The Sopranos, Goodfellas, now Streaming Exclusive on Amazon Prime
The latest comedy from producer Morris S. Levy (Affluenza, Cop Show, The Ten) stars Michael Morano (Goodfellas), Dan Grimaldi (The Sopranos), Vinny Pastore (The Sopranos), Michael Rispoli (The Offer), and Katie McCarty (Younger). The highly reviewed film, A BROOKLYN LOVE STORY, now streaming on Amazon Prime, showcases a longtime family-owned business that gets pressured to sell to gentrify the neighborhood until a local loving mobster and his lively crew concoct a crazy plan to save the day. The film is a postcard to Brooklyn (shot in Bay Bridge, a couple blocks from where producer Levy was born), describing the value of friendships, family, tradition, and love.
“The project was brought to me by a good friend of mine, Barry Rohrssen, who was friends with the first-time writer John Cortese. I read the script, thought about it, and told them I would get it done for them. I liked the story from the get-go because I was born in Brooklyn and can relate to it, “said producer Levy.
Fiercely loyal to his family, friends, and the neighborhood, ‘Mike Moona’ (Michael Morano) and his father, ‘Pops’ (Dan Grimaldi), are about to lose it all when Borough President (Christian Ryan) and a hot-shot developer ‘Angelo “Zeffoe” Zefferelli’ (Wass Stevens) have plans to gentrify the area and need the family’s fruit and vegetable store’s land, he sets his plan in motion to demolish The Golden Gate neighborhood store by invoking Eminent Domain. Loyal to ‘Pops,’ in walks the not-so-threatening neighborhood Hood – ‘Little Tony Buchie’ (Anthony Mangano), and his crew ‘Benny ‘The Snail’ Tucci’ (Vinny Pastore), and ‘Big Sally’ (Vincent D’Onofrio), knowing the Moona family has a history with the game Tug of War, Little Tony challenges Gregory and Zeffo to a winner takes all. The future of the family business lies in the hands of Little Tony and a ragtag group of non-athletes. Mike is also smitten with longtime rival Gregory’s gorgeous assistant (Katie McCarty) and is determined to save The Golden Gate and win Honey’s heart.
“When the movie premiered on Amazon Prime, I got a nice voicemail from the writer, John Cortese saying, “Today doesn’t happen without Morris Levy, for sure it doesn’t happen without you, Morris. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.” The message was very appreciated and heartwarming,” says producer Levy.
The project is written and directed by Steven Feder (award-winning The Big Gig, It Had to Be You). It is produced by Morris S. Levy under his banner M.E.G.A. Films, with Jeff Mazzolla (2 Be Perfectly Honest) and John Scaccia (Boy Wonder) producing. Adrienne Stern is casting, and Barry Rohrssen is the executive producer. John Cortese, writer/executive producer, said this particular comedic tale holds a special place in my heart because it pays tribute to the “Golden Gate,” his family-owned neighborhood fruit market for over 80 years.
