Does TikTok have the best dark humor jokes?
What is something that a billion people have in common? While there are probably a few acceptable answers to this question, the one being referred to here is a social media app: TikTok. Since 2019, TikTok has grown as one of the premier social media apps, contending with Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat. This growth was helped further by the extreme boredom that set in during the 2020 quarantine lockdowns.
But reasons that people flock to the social media giant can vary. Whether you watch dance tutorials, political rants, or minute-long hot takes, TikTok has something for everyone. One of the areas that TikTok has excelled? Dark humor.

Love for dark humor
A part of humans deep down (for some, not so deep) is fascinated with the dark and macabre. We find ourselves being drawn to it, sometimes against our better judgment. If you have ever found yourself scrolling through Netflix while lying in bed and inexplicably being drawn to the true-crime documentary . . . then you know what we’re talking about.
This fascination doesn’t always have to be serious in nature. Sometimes, this dark side of humanity mixed with a little bit of comedy can bring levity to a subject. Stand-up comedians do this often. Using taboo subjects that most don’t talk about to poke fun at the community can lighten an otherwise emotionally taxing area of life.
There’s a delicacy that comes with dark humor. A joke could easily offend someone if not delivered just right, or it could come across as disingenuous. So who on TikTok finds the balance and provides dark humor in a way that can make you laugh instead of making you cringe?
When it comes to social media, followers are everything. If someone has a lot of followers, then the assumption is the masses like them. Of course, this isn’t always true. There are definite examples of social media influencers who have a lot of followers, but are on the opposite side of the spectrum. Their “fan base” is mostly people looking to criticize.

At just under 900,000 followers, it’s mainly relegated to typed-out jokes on the screen. The first part of the joke is replaced by the dark punchline at the change of tempo to the music. Their jokes are simple and easy to understand and leave out no groups.
Their approach works because, without commentary, audiences can take the dark humor for what it is: just a joke. Since they roast everyone equally, there doesn’t seem to be an agenda behind them.

This account differs from the others on the list mainly because it’s not explicitly dedicated to dark humor jokes. TikTok is a platform where you can do anything (within reason . . .) and some “Tokkers” take that to heart and do a lot of different things. For his 1.3 million followers, this guy drops the occasional dark humor punchline that will have you rolling with laughter.
His approach can be dangerous in the sense that he could find himself in “TikTok jail.” This is when the platform removes videos and limits the reach of your following posts to stop the potential spread of hate speech. However, this account shows a lot of genuineness and likability that lays the groundwork for him to get away with dark humor.

By far the biggest hitter on the platform for TikTok’s dark humor jokes, this account sits at a whopping 8.7 million followers. Their concept was irritatingly simple (We wish we would have thought of it). They stand across from each other and tell dark humor jokes in rap-battle-style until one laughs. They even bring their parents into the gag to see who can make their stone-faced mother crack a smile.
The reason this account works? Diversity. They include all races in their battles and leave no groups out of their jokes. The feel of these videos is something that we have all experienced, sitting around with our friends and cracking jokes until we wet ourselves.
Especially in the last two years, we have all had to find ways to cope with the heaviness of life, and dark humor is one way that is done. Nothing is better than taking something that typically upsets you and turning it into something that makes you smile. Who is your favorite dark humor influencer?
