Backpacking around Europe? The places to travel to post-pandemic

Did you end up chucking your plans for a European trip last summer due to COVID-19? We’re sure many can relate to that! The pandemic made globetrotters around the world say goodbye to many memorable events this year and unfortunately, international travel was one of those.

Although traveling might seem impossible right now, the good news is things may be looking up for 2021. More & more countries have begun to open up their borders for tourists and they’re doing so with health & safety regulations in place.

Researched by Forbes, the travel insurance aggregator, Squaremouth has revealed that “65% of trips for 2021 are to international destinations”. Demand for trips abroad, especially for evergreen vacation spots like Europe, is going to shoot up before anyone realizes they can indeed travel again. And many are planning & booking their reservations from early 2021 to as far in the future as 2022.

No need to fumble around on Google search to find the perfect places that are safe & fun to vacation at – we’ve put together a list of beautiful destinations in Europe to make that backpacking trip possible again.

Slovenia

Slovenia is an overlooked gem of Europe. With titles like “Europe’s Green Capital” for its sustainable tourism, “European Region of Gastronomy for 2021” for its delightful food, and many more under its belt – Slovenia has been thriving with travel connoisseurs.

As Slovenia becomes one of the top destinations for 2021, experts suggest these must-experience pursuits in Slovenia: sleeping under the stars while vacationing; checking out the Michelin-starred restaurants (there’s six in total); enjoying the natural surroundings and lush green glory of Slovenia.

Some special locations that took the country’s tourism to the next level are:

Michelin-starred restaurant “Pikol” created Slovenia’s first floating glamping hotel in Pikol Lake Village, located among the vineyards of Vipava Valley. Another glamping spot to visit is Glamping Resort Blaguš, a forest resort located near lake Blaguš that feels like waking up in a fairytale. And lastly, this spring visitors can check out Grand Plaza Hotel, which will be opening its doors in Ljubljana with a brand-new restaurant.

Greece

The crystal clear seas and blue skies of Greece are a dream for anyone looking to travel there. From Athens to Santorini, an abundance of historical European land is ready to be explored in Greece.

Greece is deemed as one of the safest destinations to travel according to sources. The hidden gem, Kefalonia Island, is especially considered one of the most beautiful & serene islands of Greece. Located north of the island is a quaint fishing village called Asos, a unique & colorful place to accommodate tourists.

Portugal

Portugal is another one of the safe destinations to visit as it is one of the first few countries to develop an insurance for COVID-19 specifically. This insurance is a huge advantage for travelers to leverage since reimbursements for hotels, flights, and repatriation will be covered in the event of any COVID-19-related cancellations impacting your trip for less than 40 Euros.

The safe & clean Madeira Islands of Portugal are the perfect destination to sip your cocktails on the beach. The archipelago is famous for its gorgeous landscapes & ocean setting.

Other than its pure & germ-free air,  Madeira has also been in the green zone for the lowest active cases of COVID-19 in Europe. Sports activities like trekking, cycling, hiking, and more are some of the recommended activities.

Croatia

With very few COVID-19 cases per million inhabitants compared to most affected nations in Europe, Croatia is a safe destination for travel.

Reckoned to be one of the most culturally sound destinations in Croatia, Cavat is a small town located south of Dubrovnik. Along with its historical heritage, Cavat is awed for its astounding scenery.

Cavat has everything to offer the present-day tourist from accommodations to services and so much more, it’s an attractive location for travelers to explore.

Monaco

Compared to countries like Belgium, Monaco has seen fewer deaths and cases of the coronavirus – thus one of the safest countries in Europe. This glamorous destination is also a celebrity vacation hub.

Monaco’s elegant architecture and rich flora & fauna appeal to the likes of famous athletes, film personalities, and artists. But anyone is welcome to this royal country to enjoy its beauty & culture accompanied by its homeland-grown produce.
