Is HBO Max worth the price? These movies make us say “yes”
HBO Max, a subscription video streaming service that’s owned by AT&T, has made quite the headway in the “streaming wars” since its launch last May. Even with the current price of $15.99 per month, it’s clear why HBO Max has been able to stay competitive in the long line of streaming services, as its price clearly highlights its top-shelf content when compared to the subscription fees of Disney Plus, Netflix, and Hulu.
That being said, HBO Max does have some incredible content available for its subscribers, a well as content currently in production that’ll surely elevate this streaming service even higher, including A Sex in the City revival, a Game of Thrones spinoff series, and a Lord of the Rings prequel series.
HBO Max is simply worth the price, as even now they’re constantly dropping new titles from their impressive content providers, including Sony, Studio Ghibli, Warner Bros., The CW, 20th Century Studios, as well as a long list of others. Are you thinking about swallowing the large price tag and getting yourself a subscription for HBO Max? Here are some of the movie titles that might help persuade you.
The Wizard of Oz
HBO Max is home to a variety of timeless films, including Casablanca, Singing in the Rain, and Citizen Kane. However, perhaps no classic film was as trailblazing for family storytelling as 1939’s The Wizard of Oz, based on the L. Frank Baum classic.
The film tells the story of Dorothy, who winds up in the magical land of Oz after a twister befalls her small farm in Kansas. It’s in this magical land where she befriends the Scarecrow, the Tinman, and the cowardly Lion, as they all make their way down the yellow-brick road in an effort to meet the great & powerful Wizard of Oz, all while escaping the evil intentions of the Wicked Witch of the West.
Jaws
This 1975 creature feature was the breakout film for iconic director Steven Spielberg, who tells the story of a small beach town who are under attack by a man eating shark, all during the town’s busiest weekend of the year . . . the fourth of July.
Jaws is a notable benchmark in delivering modern blockbuster thrills, and simply a must-watch at the start of every summer vacation.
Mad Max: Fury Road
This 2015 roller coaster of a film brings director George Miller back to his playground of Mad Max, where its narrative heft and exhilarating action always manages to leave its audiences in a state similar to that of getting off the Hollywood Tower of Terror.
Mad Max: Fury Road, which stars Tom Hardy & Charlize Theron, is simply one of the best action films you’ll ever see, and quite frankly one of the more beautiful action films to look at, as well.
The Dark Knight
Dive back into the world of Gotham City in 2008’s The Dark Knight, directed once again by Christopher Nolan as a follow up to his smash 2005 film, Batman Begins.
The Dark Knight is argued by many as the “greatest comic book movie of all time”, capped with a legendary performance by the late Heath Ledger as the clown prince of crime, the Joker.
Spirited Away
This enchanting 2001 Studio Ghibli film tells the story of a 10-year old child who moves with her parents to a new home in the Japanese countryside. After an odd turn of events, the child winds up in a supernatural realm in the liking of Alice in Wonderland, where she awaits a reunion with her parents.
Spirited Away is directed by the legendary Japanese animated filmmaker, Hayao Miyazaki.
