‘Selling Sunset’: Netflix lying about Christine Quinn’s new husband?

The popular Netflix reality show, Selling Sunset, is back with new episodes. Ostentatious in every possible way, the drama that unfolds does not disappoint. The show follows a group of extremely high end real estate agents from the Oppenheim Group as they navigate the real estate market of the very rich and famous in Los Angeles.

At the center of the show is Christine Quinn, often referred to as the “Queen Bee” of the group of real estate agents in the show. In this season, Christine arrives back in Los Angeles from a global vacation with her new bae, Christian Richard. According to the show, Richard is MIT educated and the couple met while Quinn was trying to sell him a house.

Or did they? Turns out, Netflix might be bending the reality aspect of their super popular reality show. Is Christian Richard who they say he is, or is Selling Sunset simply creating a character that fits the narrative of their show? Here is everything we know.

Who is Christian Richard?

In short, Christian Richard doesn’t actually exist. His name is actually Christian Dumontet. Turns out Dumontet actually requested that his real name not be used in the show to protect his privacy.

Dumontet grew up in Middleton, New Jersey and graduated from the College of New Jersey in 2000 with a major in computer science. In 2004, he co-founded Foodler, a food delivery app. The app was extremely successful, and in 2017 GrubHub purchased the company in an all cash deal. The amount of the deal? No one knows. The amount of money Dumontet made from the sale remains undisclosed to this day.

Now considered to be incredibly wealthy, Dumontet retired before the age of 40 and began travelling & vacationing all around the world.

How did Dumontet meet Quinn?

According to Selling Sunset, Quinn met Dumontet while she was selling him a home in the Hollywood Hills that was owned by Crystal Hefner. Dumontet allegedly paida modest $5 million for the property. As it turns out, the story behind the onset of the relationship between Dumontet and Quinn might not actually be what Netflix is portraying.

The reality is that Christine Quinn met Christian Dumontet months before the sale of Hollywood Hills property. A friend of Quinn’s had actually gone on a date with Dumontet. When said friend decided she didn’t want to continue dating Dumontet, she suggested that he might be a good fit for Quinn. Introductions were made, and clearly, Quinn’s friend was right. The couple began dating instantly.

They had actually been dating for three months, and were house hunting together, when Dumontet bought the Hollywood Hills property from Hefner. So this notion that they met while Dumontet was purchasing the house is a scripted lie on Netflix’s part. The reality part of this show is clearly a mix of truth and fabrications. Tsk tsk, Netflix.

The MIT thing

When Netflix introduced Dumontet into the show as Christian Richard, he was introduced as someone who “went” to MIT. It’s clear Netflix intended audiences to infer that Dumontet graduated from the prestigious school, however, one should pay attention to the wording of the statement.

Quinn never actually says he graduated from MIT, though clearly it is her intention to allude to that fact. His affiliation with MIT is loose, at best. He worked as part of a team that included a prominent MIT professor and a well known MIT cryptography researcher. He did not attend the school himself.

It is now well known that Dumontet attended college in his home state of New Jersey. Not only did he not not attend MIT, he did not graduate from any other high-brow, Ivy League school either. More white allusions and scripted lies on behalf of Netflix. So what else is Selling Sunset fabricating? Inquiring minds want to know…

  • GrubHub purchased Foodler for 51 million . . . He was the Co-creator and the CEO so although it’s unknown how much he made personally it was enough to retire and travel the world.
