BritBox: Is this British streaming service finally adding bingeworthy shows?

If you’re a fan of British television and you don’t subscribe to BritBox, then what exactly are you doing with your life? BritBox, a British streaming service, has been relatively unknown but now the platform has added some seriously binge-able TV shows and we can’t ignore it any longer!

From British classics to newly released shows, BritBox has everything any TV watcher desires (not just U.K. enthusiasts). Only $6.99 per month, those who find themselves digging through Netflix for British shows should find this price more than manageable. Here are some of our favorite shows from BritBox that’ll keep you thoroughly entertained!

The Pembrokeshire Murders

This three-part miniseries follows the real story of the Pembrokeshire murders by serial killer John Cooper. The murders first occurred in the 1980s, but it wasn’t until 2006 when detective Steve Wilkins decided to reopen the case that the truth was finally revealed.

The show stars acclaimed actors such as Luke Evans, playing Steve Wilkins, and Keith Allen as the serial killer John Cooper. This effective drama shines in both its accuracy to the real investigation & its focus on justice for the victims rather than glamorizing the killer. Any true crime fanatic will devour this series in a single night.

Classic Doctor Who

Timeless, quirky, and simply all-around a good time, older seasons of Doctor Who remain a comfort to fans of the sci-fi/comedy series. With 26 seasons available, this marathon will definitely take a considerable amount of time. Perhaps ending your long day with an episode (or two) of some vintage Doctor Who is the better route.

Follow the long & bizarre journey of the time-traveling doctor who just can’t seem to settle down. Watch Doctor Who episodes starting from 1963 to 1996 and fall in love with each rendition of the iconic & ever-regenerating Doctor.

Pride and Prejudice

No, not the iconic Kiera Knightley movie but the even more legendary 1995 miniseries starring Colin Firth & Jennifer Ehle. Any viewer will both swoon & cackle at the classic enemies to lovers romance between Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet.

Considered the superior & primary screen adaptation of Jane Austen’s popular novel, the 1995 Pride and Prejudice series delves into the characters like no adaptation before or after.

Poirot

First airing in 1989 and with ultimately thirteen seasons, this famous series truly deserves all of its hype. Follow famous Belgian detective, Hercule Poirot, as he travels all over the world to solve mysterious crimes.

Based on the popular tales by Agatha Christie, any fan of the British writer should give this expansive show a chance. Also, look out for A-list stars such as Emily Blunt & Michael Fassbender.

Fawlty Towers

This 1975 BBC sitcom has now become widely known as the best British sitcom of all time. Yeah, that’s a hot take alright. Well-deserving of its title, the show follows Basil Fawlty who manages a hotel but is constantly irritated by “that annoying section of the general public who insist on staying at hotels”.

The series features an array of comical characters who are incessantly bringing Basil down. Perhaps the origin of the beloved dry humor Britain became internationally known for, Fawlty Towers is a hysterical 1970s sitcom worth a laid-back Sunday afternoon viewing.

Shetland

This 2013 mystery series, which has five seasons, follows Detective Investigator Jimmy Perez who is a native Shetlander who returns to the islands to help solve its crimes. Perez must solve a case where the remains of a missing person are found at various locations on the beach’s shore.

Perez & his colleagues must work together to track down the killer with practically no leads whatsoever. It may sound like another run-of-the-mill detective series, but we believe this show is addicting and will pull you in for each season. Also, prepare because the creators are currently working on an upcoming sixth season.
