‘The Babysitters Club’: These moments prove it’s the sweetest show on Netflix
Some shows have the power to surprise & touch us. That is the case of the Netflix show The Babysitters Club, one of the platform’s biggest hits ever. This series shows the story of five girls —Kristy, Mary Anne, Claudia, Stacey, and Dawn— in their early teenage years, where they share their friendship, woes, and their routines as babysitters.
Adapted from the Ann M. Martin middle-school book series, friendship is the center of the story. These five girls have become a tight-knit group, where all life experiences are shared and lived together, as one. Every emotion is shared, and deep topics are discussed in a unique fashion, uplifting us all.
There are some moments, however, that make us all feel good and even sympathize with the girls’ struggles & rejoices. Without further ado, here are some moments proving The Babysitters Club in the sweetest Netflix show you can watch.
Mary Anne sits with Dawn
Dawn is the new girl to the town of Stoneybrook, the small town in Connecticut The Babysitters Club takes place. When the rest of the girls are angry with Mary Anne, she decides to sit down with the newcomer for lunch and offers her friendship.
There’s an instant connection between Dawn & Mary Anne, and a friendship is formed right away. The girls decide to hang out outside of school, and after Dawn & Mary Anne get together, they start learning valuable lessons on encouragement. How? It has something to do with the situation between Mary Anne and the other babysitters (no spoilers).
In a sweet gesture, Dawn offers Mary Anne an opportunity to start things fresh and to give the others a piece of her mind. Dawn feels more confident with the advice and stands up to anyone who confronts her.
Redoing Mary Anne’s bedroom
Here’s proof that when we join forces and stick together, the most amazing things can happen. Even in some difficult moments when we go through major transformations, like going from being a kid to being an adult.
In one episode, Mary Anne goes through some difficult body changes. She feels like she needs a more mature identity, but she struggles with being trapped in the body of a little kid: with no voice of her own, not reflecting the young woman she’s becoming. With Dawn’s advice about confidence in mind, Mary Anne decides to confront her strict father, telling him it’s time for a makeover for both her appearance & bedroom. And that’s when the girls come along, deciding to help their struggling friend overcome that major moment.
Mary Anne and her friends put their hands to work and redo her entire bedroom as true friends do. And the makeover wasn’t just a makeover: It was a glow-up in Mary Anne’s life.
Standing by Stacey with her diabetes issues
If there were friendship vows, they would look similar to wedding vows in one aspect: sickness & health. And that’s what Stacey experiences in The Babysitters Club when the girls meet her. Like many kids her age, Type 1 diabetes is a big blow in her daily life, causing her both stress & embarrassment.
Stacey is diagnosed with Type 1 after having some other health issues, and she immediately feels ashamed of her condition, including having to wear an insulin pump everywhere she goes. But that shame turned into confidence, as the girls stepped forward and gave her their full support.
Thus, Stacey’s fear of being judged turns into honesty & strength because Stacey’s surrounded by true friends. And that strength made Stacey more confident of her abilities while being diabetic.
