Perhaps you’re always curious about the most successful investors and philanthropists? There’s a good chance you might already know a few intriguing facts about Warren Edward Buffett.

He was born on August 30th, 1930, in Omaha, Nebraska. Upon completing high school, he found success with his side entrepreneurial and investment ventures, Buffett was eager to skip college to go directly into business. His father, however, decided against it. In 1947, Buffett enrolled in the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

He earned a Master of Science in Economics from California in 1951. After graduation, Buffett attended the New York Institute of Finance.

Career/social media

Warren Buffett’s ambition was to work on Wall Street. Both his father and Ben Graham encouraged him not to. He offered to work for Graham for free, Graham refused. In one of his letters to shareholders, Buffett wrote that “when trillions of dollars are managed by Wall Streeters charging high fees, it will usually be the managers who reap outsized profits, not the clients.”

He usually plays the instrument at stockholder meetings and other opportunities. His love of the instrument paved the way for the commissioning of two custom Dairy Queen ukuleles by Dave Talsma, one of which was auctioned for charity.

Amid the subprime mortgage crisis of 2007 to ’08, Warren Buffett made a number of deals that, though were questioned at the time, proved heavily profitable. In September of 2008, he invested $5 billion in the U.S.-based bank holding company Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. The following month, Berkshire Hathaway purchased $3 billion in General Electric Company (GE) preferred stock.

In November of the following year, Buffett announced that Berkshire was purchasing the railroad company Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corporation for about approximately $26 billion. Mind you, the investment group already owned about twenty-three percent of the railroad. Berkshire also claimed massive shareholdings in companies it did not govern, including Coca-Cola and Apple.
