Everything to know about the ‘Turner and Hooch’ reboot

Do you like dogs solving crime but aren’t in the mood for some Scooby Doo? It’s a surprising sort of genre, possibly a spinoff of a sort of “boy and his dog” genre of stories. Lassie is a good example of this. These didn’t necessarily last. For a truly, amazingly awful example check out Tequila and Bonetti, which lasted for 12 episodes on CBS in the 90s.

Though we do have to wonder. . .who, exactly, was clamoring for a Turner and Hooch reboot?

What? What is Turner and Hooch?

Turner and Hooch is a 1989 buddy cop comedy starring Tom Hanks. His co-star is Beasley the Dog (who is a very good dog! Look at the face!). Hanks is a police detective named Scott Turner, who inherits a big and noisy dog named Hooch (Beasley). Together, they fight crime!

One is a routine-oriented neat freak and the other is a bit wilder. It’s just taking the animalistic partner and making him an actual animal. Seriously.

It’s fondly remembered, we supposed? There was a push to try to make a pilot for it in the 90s, but nothing came with it. Animals are pretty hard to work with on camera. Seriously.

So this is a thing that’s happening?

Yep. There’s some pretty good talent behind it. Matt Nix, who created the beloved USA series Burn Notice, has developed the series, will write for it, and will executive produce it. Burn Notice was a pretty good take on the spy genre so. . .why not?

Josh Levy (Bones) will also serve as a co-executive producer for the project.

Turner and Hooch has been given 12 episodes, so Disney+ is definitely doubling down with it.

Who is starring in it?

Josh Peck, who millennials will know from Drake & Josh and The Amanda Show, will play Scott Turner in the series. Unlike the movie, Scott Turner will be a U.S. Marshal. For those without that frame of reference, part of the Marshal service is like Witness Protection and stuff like that.

According to Deadline, “Like the movie, the hour long series revolves around Scott Turner, who is now a U.S. marshal vs. a police detective in the movie, and his dog. When an ambitious, buttoned-up U.S. marshal (Peck) inherits a big unruly dog, he soon realizes the pet he didn’t want may be the partner he needs.”

So Josh Peck teams up with a dog and fights crime, we can behind that?

Have they cast the dog?!

They have not cast the dog for Turner and Hooch, but we are certain that they will be a very good dog, oh yes they will be.
