Could Justin Hartley’s divorce be a plotline for Kevin on ‘This is Us’?
We’ve seen a lot of nasty separations, breakups, and divorces in the midst of all the glitz & glamor of the movie industry. The end of a relationship can be ugly as is, being in the public makes it all the more difficult. From Denise Richards & Charlie Sheen’s accusations-riddled separation to Amber Heard & Johnny Depp’s marriage ending prematurely due to the latter’s abusive behavior, we’ve seen quite a lot.
The most recent in a spate of ugly divorces is Justin Harley’s, who reportedly informed his now-estranged wife, Chrishell Stause, about the filing of divorce over a text message. What else did you expect from the era of ghosting, benching, and breadcrumbing?
This Is Us star had filed for divorce in November 2019, citing irreconcilable differences. The date of separation mentioned in the papers is interestingly July 8. No one can be sure what the drama behind this sassy detail is, but it sure raises a lot of eyebrows.
The tale of a nasty divorce
Talking of raised eyebrows, Chrishell Stause seemed to have been caught off-guard by this development. Her trial was on public display on Selling Sunset, the real estate reality show she’s a part of.
When asked about the same by her co-star Mary Fitzgerald, she shared, “I found out because he texted me that we were filed. Forty-five minutes later, the world knew. We were totally fine that day. I mean, I thought we were totally fine.” It’s the recipe for a classic ugly divorce.
Is fame getting in the way?
We’ve seen Justin Hartley in the heartbreaking drama This is Us as Kevin Pearson, who started off as what many would think of as a snob or obnoxious person. His charms were always befitting for his bad-boy vibe, but audiences soon warmed up to his character.
For Hartley, the character also shot him to fame almost instantly IRL. Playing this character has been a great experience for him, and he’s certainly getting a raise. Which is what brings attention to the controversial divorce settlement. At one point, rumors also hinted at the possibility of infidelity in the equation. But sources were quick to clarify, “Cheating was never in the cards and never happened on either side.”
Hartley has been very terse in his life after divorce – from wiping all photographs of his former spouse from social media to moving on Sofia Pernas – he seems to be making a clean break.
Divorce, down & dirty
Recent developments suggest that Stause believes Hartley has engaged in this nasty legal complication of filing in November for a July separation to preserve the fruits of his fame & success. Allegedly, it’s all about the money.
The date is a bone of contention because they’d been making public appearances till a couple of days before the unfortunate text landed in Stause’s phone. She has hosted a fundraiser where she auctioned a coffee with her husband Justin Hartley & a signed This Is Us script. They were also together at a Golden Globes event in LA.
How do people go from supporting each other to completely leaving them behind like this? We’re trying to get answers and so are Stause’s lawyers. They’re allegedly pushing for her to get spousal support, suspecting that the date hullabaloo exists to prevent her from getting her share in Hartley’s supposed recent fortune.
Getting timelines mixed like it’s This Is Us
We know This Is Us works due to the mysteries that the incomplete storylines across their many timelines present, but this is real life. But the date of their separation looks like no gaffe. If it’s an intentional move as suspected, things might get even more heated as the divorce proceedings move on.
