The latest trailer for 'The Batman' literally has our jaws to the floor. But will Robert Pattinson kill it as the caped crusader? We believe so!

Does ‘The Batman’ trailer prove Robert Pattinson is the best caped crusader?

On Saturday, the DC Fandome event dropped its latest trailer for the much-anticipated The Batman, directed by Dawn of the Planet of the Apes filmmaker Matt Reeves and starring Robert Pattinson as the caped crusader. The latest trailer, while not giving too much away, still managed to highlight just why fans should no longer be skeptical of the former Twilight star donning the cape & cowl.

DC Fandome, which sort of kicked off last year thanks to COVID-19, gave fans of the DC comic world much to look forward to on Saturday. The event featured many surprises, including behind-the-scenes footage of Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom, behind-the-scenes footage of Shazam: Fury of the Gods, a first teaser at The Flash, and even an update on Wonder Woman 3. However, the day was all about The Batman

And now, seeing as we have our second full trailer for the film, it’s becoming more & more clear that this just might be our most anticipated film of 2022, given the film’s gritty style, incredible cast, raw story, and dark setting. March of next year can’t get here soon enough, but don’t worry . . . we’ll wait. Check out the full trailer below before we delve into some fun The Batman details!

The Batman

The Batman is an upcoming elseworlds story of the caped crusader during his second year of fighting crime in GothamDirected by Matt Reeves, the film stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne AKA Batman, Andy Serkis as his loyal Butler Alfred, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle, Colin Farrell as the Penguin, and John Turturro as Carmine Falcone.

Matt Reeves has stated in the past that he wanted his version of Batman to be a noir-style detective film, a genre that previous Batman iterations vaguely explored. Of course, this project first came into being after Ben Affleck ultimately left his own Batman film for the DC universe, in which he was set to both direct and star in before deciding to move off what was once considered his “dream” project.

Nevertheless, we couldn’t be more excited for this film than we already are, given its run of impressive trailers as well as the film’s creative team. That being said, amazing cast aside, there is still one major question mark that seems to be looming for the generic film audience, and that’s the casting choice of Robert Pattinson, an actor who, if you haven’t been watching closely, has been on one hell of a run in his Hollywood career.

Robert Pattinson is the Batman

In May of 2019, it was reported that, once Ben Affleck dropped out of the project, there would be a new Batman film in the works separate from the DC Universe. Around this time, it was revealed that Twilight actor Robert Pattinson was on the shortlist of actors whom the studio wanted to play Bruce Wayne, alongside Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Armie Hammer.

Director Matt Reeves even noted how he wanted Pattinson from the early start, but had concerns if Pattinson would be interested in even stepping into a superhero film, given his recent choices this past decade in starring in smaller, more confined films that are character driven, such as The Lighthouse, Good Time, and The Rover

Pattinson even wore Val Kilmer’s suit in Batman Forever for his audition, ultimately landing him the role.

Once it became official, fans were quick to criticize the casting choice by Warner Bros. & Matt Reeves, furious that they opted to go with a Twilight star rather than another big name. However, many who have seen Pattinson’s work after the Twilight Saga were quick to defend the star, bringing up how much of the general audience was equally distraught when Heath Ledger was cast as the Joker in 2008’s The Dark Knight.

Yeah . . . maybe we should just watch The Batman first before being so quick to judge, cool?
