Will Emmy Rossum return for a new season of ‘Shameless’?
The new & final season of Shameless is now available for streaming on Netflix & Hulu. The series finale provided some closure for fans who’ve followed the show since 2011. Nonetheless, Shameless ends with some storylines intentionally up in the air. Does this mean there could be potential for a new season of Shameless in the future?
Many Shameless cast members moved on to other projects even before the show ended. Cameron Monaghan appeared as the Joker in Gotham. Jeremy Allen White was featured in The Rental, a horror film directed by Dave Franco. Emma Kenney stars on the Roseanne spinoff The Conners. Yet in the new season of Shameless, someone major is clearly missing.
Emmy Rossum left her role as Fiona Gallagher after season nine of Shameless. Fiona was written off in poetic fashion as she gets to leave Chicago & follow her heart. Even though Rossum was given a grand exit in season nine, fans still wonder why she left Shameless in the first place.
Emmy Rossum’s exit from Shameless
Shameless co-star Emma Kenney recently disclosed that Emmy Rossum had a bit of a toxic on-set presence. Rossum was allegedly dealing with her demons & would take “it out on other people” according to Kenney. Despite Kenney’s allegations, she wishes Rossum well. Kenney says of her on-screen sister “I have a lot of love for her, and I hope that she finds her happiness.”
This is why the new season of Shameless may lack some of the catharsis fans were hoping for. While Frank & the Gallagher crew are all given endings to their stories, Fiona never comes back. Shameless teased Fiona’s return before, showing her name appearing on caller ID in the season after her departure. This could just have been showrunners being tongue in cheek.
Emmy Rossum has kept fairly quiet since she left Shameless. After directing an episode of Animal Kingdom in 2017 she got behind the camera again for an episode of Modern Love in 2019. However, Rossum may come back to the screen with a force in an upcoming new series.
Emmy Rossum on Angelyne
Television fans everywhere have been waiting for Angelyne since the trailer dropped on YouTube in April 2020. Unfortunately, the show’s production was delayed indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This Wednesday however, Emmy Rossum was seen in her neon pink outfit on the streets of Los Angeles for a shoot.
Rossum laughed boisterously as the Angelyne crew filmed a scene where she’s proposed to after receiving a new corvette. Rossum portrays Polish-born Ronia Tamar Goldberg. Goldberg went by Angelyne & became famous due to a series of billboards in 1984. The series chronicles her rise to fame & subsequent transformation.
Rossum sports large fake cleavage in the promotional footage for the show. Emmy didn’t have the fake boobs on for Wednesday’s shoot. This led fans to speculate that maybe they were filming a flashback scene. Rossum has also drawn attention from onlookers in other shoots. Wearing her Angelyne costume, Emmy smashes a guitar in a behind-the-scenes video online.
Even with all the hype surrounding Angelyne’s production, a release date still hasn’t been announced. The Peacock original will feature The Hobbit & Sherlock star Martin Freeman alongside Rossum. Sam Esmail, creator of Mr. Robot & Rossum’s husband, will executive produce the show. Angelyne is based on a 2017 Hollywood Reporter feature by Gary Baum.
Where’s the Shameless cast now?
After the new & final season of Shameless, you may be wondering what the cast is up to now. Emmy Rossum isn’t the only Gallagher making moves in Hollywood. Cameron Monaghan is set to appear in an upcoming thriller entitled Shattered. He’ll star alongside Lilly Krug & John Malkovich. Shattered will be directed by Spanish filmmaker Luis Prieto.
Emma Kenney is listed in the cast for Murder at Emigrant Gulch. This new Western is directed by Richard Gray from a screenplay by Eric Belgau. The movie was shot this summer in Montana. Soon after, the cast was announced at the Cannes Film Market in June. Murder at Emigrant Gulch will also feature Isaiah Mustafa, Gabriel Byrne, Nat Wolff, and Richard Dreyfuss.
Ethan Cutkosky will star in Max Chernov’s debut film Going Places. This dark comedy will also star Chloe East, Alysia Reiner, and Mimi Kennedy.
Jeremy Allen White recently had a child with his spouse Addison Timlin. He also appeared in The Birthday Cake, a crime thriller that came out this year. The Birthday Cake is the directorial debut from Jimmy Giannopoulos. It stars Ewan McGregor, Val Kilmer, and Lorraine Bracco. White was also announced to be the lead of FX’s new comedy The Bear.
Is Shameless done for good?
Despite the new season of Shameless being available on streaming platforms, there are those who still want more. With many of the actors moving on to other projects, it, unfortunately, appears that the show will not be coming back anytime soon. We can still enjoy our Shameless stars in their upcoming projects.

If Kenney “truly’ loved Rossum, she wouldn’t have slandered her reputation.
Personally, Rossum and Macy were the only ones I liked on that show.
