Even Arnold Schwarzenegger thinks his son-in-law is the worst Chris
The average man lives in constant fear of his father-in-law, constantly seeking approval that’s generally nowhere to be found. Imagine how much harder it must be to impress your father-in-law when he’s The Terminator . . . and that’s even before factoring in the internet deciding you are “the worst” of your kind.
We’re talking about Chris Pratt & Arnold Schwarzenegger here. In case you were not aware, The Worst Chris happens to be Arnie’s son-in-law. However, odds are if you watched Pratt’s recent Instagram Live fundraiser, then you’ll never forget his connection with the former Mr. Universe.
Worst, worst, worst
The thing about the “Chris Pratt is the worst Chris” debacle is it really could’ve happened to anyone – or anyone called Chris, at least. Let’s face it, when you’re put in direct competition against Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, and Chris Pine, you are likely to lose, even if you’re the leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy – that’s some stiff competition for all those other Chrises.
Whatever the case, the Battle of the Chrises started innocently enough: a tweet asked the online community to pick which Chris they could stand to lose out of Evans, Hemsworth, Pine, and Pratt. Aiding Pratt in drawing the short straw, and becoming a meme, was his support for a church modeled after the controversial Hillsong Church and which has been accused of being “infamously anti-LGBTQ”.
Thus, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s son-in-law was dubbed (bring out your inner Jean-Ralphio for this one) The Wooooooooorst. Fellow Avengers Mark Ruffalo & Robert Downey Jr. jumped to Star-Lord’s defense, and even Pratt’s brother-in-law, Patrick Schwarzenegger, expressed indignation at the unfair moniker. On the other hand, if Arnie had anything to say about Pratt’s new title, then he kept it to himself.
Insta-Pratt
A few months passed since Chris Pratt fell from grace in the internet’s eyes and it looks like he decided to make amends by throwing a fundraiser using his Instagram Live feed. The event took place on New Year’s Eve and aimed to raise money to support people suffering from food insecurity. Who are you calling The Worst Chris now, huh?
Pratt’s hunger relief telethon featured appearances from other Marvel Cinematic Universe favorites like Tom Holland and the aforementioned Downey Jr. as well as upcoming MCU stars like Jamie Foxx. Half the funds raised were donated to Feeding America while the other half was donated as cash grants to individual frontline feeding organizations in areas that have been hit the hardest by COVID-19.
All in all, it was the kind of effort that would make a father-in-law proud. As if to provide a ringing endorsement of Chris Pratt’s charitable event, Arnold Schwarzenegger even made an appearance on his son-in-law’s Instagram feed – and that’s where things went South.
If it isn’t Star-Prince
Just like with the outcome of the Battle of the Chrises, what happened when Arnold Schwarzenegger popped up into his son-in-law’s Instagram Live feed could’ve happened to anyone. It’s just funnier because it happened to Arnie and Chris Pratt.
First, Pratt introduced The Governator: “Our next guest is a pretty important guy. He is Mr. Universe. He is the Terminator. He’s the former governor of California. He’s my father-in-law. My daughter’s grandfather. In a word, I better not screw this up or I will be terminated.”
Luckily for Pratt, the one who screwed up was Arnie. “Hello, Chris Evans,” said Schwarzenegger, before instantly correcting himself: “Or, not Chris Evans, sorry. I’m gonna screw up this thing right from the beginning. Chris Pratt.” Ouch.
Star-Lord, legendary outlaw
In Arnie’s defense, he probably isn’t very familiar with how Instagram Live works and probably was a little nervous, which would lead to getting his Chrises mixed up. Or, if you want to give Schwarzenegger & his son-in-law a lot of credit, the whole thing could’ve been a pre-planned bit designed to give the audiences a few laughs at the expense of Pratt’s online reputation.
At any rate, the event was a success: Chris Pratt managed to raise $615,000 during his Instagram telethon. Isn’t that really all that matters?
