What went wrong for Denise Richards and Charlie Sheen?

Richards & Sheen’s history

Denise Richards & Charlie Sheen first met when they worked on Good Advice in 2000, then again on the set of Spin City in 2001. Apparently, Richards thought he was Mr. Right after their second date! The two were engaged the day after Christmas of that year, and married only six months later, on June 15th, 2002. Two years later, the couple had their first child, Sam.

The two had some good times and even went on to star in a few productions together, such as Two and a Half Men & Scary Movie 3. Except things didn’t stay sunny for long . . . Let’s talk about Denise Richards & Charlie Sheen’s divorce.

Richards & Sheen’s split

Denise Richards filed for divorce from Charlie Sheen in late 2006, while she was pregnant with their second daughter, Lola. From there, there was an outpouring of drama in the tabloids, as the two could not resist throwing verbal shots at each other. 

Richards accused Sheen of a number of abusive behaviors, while Sheen threw nasty names at her in an attempt to defend himself. It wasn’t pretty. This heated drama would continue for years. Sheen would keep making vulgar statements about his wife online, and from all accounts, Richards would respond as calmly as possible.

This all reached a dramatic development in 2016 when Richards sued Sheen for over one million dollars. She claimed he had evicted her and the kids illegally, and sent threatening messages about her to the daughters. However, these claims didn’t stop Sheen and his lawyer from talking badly about her and calling her a gold digger.

Richards remarried in September of 2018, and Charlie Sheen was not in attendance, though he was invited to the ceremony. Two years later, in May of 2020, Richards told US Weekly things were “great” between her & Sheen, and communication between her & him was excellent.

For a while, it looked like things would look up, but they soon came crashing down. This all climaxed in October of this year, with a surprising development for Denise Richards & Charlie Sheen alike.

The latest development

On October 5th, 2021, a judge ruled that Charlie Sheen no longer has to pay child support to Denise Richards. He doesn’t have to give her a single cent more.

This has obviously shocked Richards, and according to People Magazine, she was “blindsided” by the ruling. She wasn’t in attendance during the hearing, which makes the judge’s decision even more surprising. People’s source said the following:

“Lola does not live with Charlie. She lives with both of her parents and stays with Charlie when Denise is out of town. When Denise is back, Lola will be with her. This is very disappointing for Denise, but also not surprising. Charlie is pitting the girls against their mother, which is horrible.”

Clearly, this is bad news for Denise Richards. For Charlie Sheen, on the other hand, this means he’s free of child support responsibilities.
