Are Prince William and Kate Middleton being kicked out of their house?
Some of the only things that are certain in life are death, taxes, and people being obsessed with the royal family. While it might only take Queen Elizabeth breaking wind to spark interest on the part of the tabloids, the gossip rags sure love drama within the aristocracy. One of the most obvious examples of this is the Prince Harry & Duchess Meghan Markle scandal.
Prince William & Kate Middleton have long been the darlings of the press, and the couple often seems to welcome the public attention. The latest royal saga that has caught the attention of the papers is that Kate Middleton, Prince William, and their children are interested in moving closer to the Queen in Windsor. However, some roadblocks have gotten in the way of their plan.
Kate, William, and the kids were allegedly going to move into a newly refurbished Adelaide Cottage, which is only a stone’s throw from where Queen Elizabeth resides. Despite this, some royal drama got in the way of the Cambridges moving into the Adelaide Cottage, involving none other than the recently disgraced Prince Andrew.
Royal pains
The Daily Mail claims that Jeffrey Epstein’s associate Prince Andrew desired for his daughter Princess Eugenie to live in the Adelaide Cottage in Windsor. Princess Eugenie has been living at Frogmore Cottage with her husband Jack Brooksbank & their son August. Interestingly enough, Meghan Markle & Prince Harry loaned the cottage to Princess Eugenie.
Sources “close to the Yorks” say that Eugenie, “had been trying to secure Adelaide Cottage for a while for when she moves out of Frogmore.” Insiders went on to say that, “before Andrew’s most recent scandal it was definitely a property he was [also] trying to secure for his daughter.” Despite the Cambridges getting precedence, they seem to have switched options.
The Sunday Times wrote that Middleton, William, and their offspring will possibly be moving into “The Big House” on Windsor Estate. This is due to the fact that Prince Charles won’t need the house as much when he’s King. In the meantime, William & Kate will still have their apartments in Kensington Palace, as well as Anmer Hall in Norfolk.
A source who’s friends with William told the publication, “They absolutely love it up there, it’s their happy place.” The source added that the family will move back to Anmer, “after the school years.” As the Cambridges are of such international recognition, “The reality is they are quite confined in what they can do in London.”
On the move
Not getting Adelaide Cottage actually seems to be an upgrade for the Cambridges, as their new possible digs are a lot bigger, and better suited for their growing family. Fun fact: Adelaide used to be the residence of Group Captain Peter Townsend, Princess Margaret’s lover, from 1944 to 1952. In the years since it’s been set aside as a “grace & favor” estate.
“Grace & favor” residences are dwellings granted rent-free by the English royal household. While the royal family could essentially live anywhere in the world they want, it’s interesting to know that they have a network of places that they all share. It’s almost like they need their own Airbnb service.
Kate Middleton, Prince William, and their children were also apparently considering moving into Prince Andrew’s residence, Royal Lodge. However, Prince Andrew allegedly refused to leave. Windsor seems to be the best place for the Cambridges, as it is close to her majesty, and George & Charlotte are going to school in London at the moment.
So why do Kate & William want to leave Anmer Hall in Norfolk? Well, a source told the Mail on Sunday in the past, “Anmer Hall made sense while William was a helicopter pilot in East Anglia and it was useful for Christmases at Sandringham but it doesn’t really work anymore. It’s a little too far away for weekends but Windsor is a perfect compromise.”
