A recent disappearance in the UK has shaken everyone to their core. Nicola Bulley, mom of two, went missing and has now been found dead a mile away from where she vanished. It’s unclear what happened, but the police are now trying to figure out exactly what happened.
Here’s everything you need to know about the disappearance of Nicola Bulley.
What happened to Nicola Bulley?
Nicola Bulley was a forty-five-year-old mortgage advisor and lived with her partner and two children in Inskip, Lancashire. Nicola was last seen on January 27, 2023, in St Michael’s on Wyre, Lancashire, at 9:10am. She was reported missing after not returning home from a school run.
Bulley was last spotted walking along a river path with her dog. At the time of her disappearance, Ms. Bulley was wearing a long black gilet jacket with a hood and had her hair tied in a ponytail. She had black jeans on with olive green ankle wellies.
What was odd was that her dog was found nearby and Nicola’s phone and the dog’s lead were found on a bench next to the river. During a press conference on February 3, 2023, police said their “main working hypothesis” is that she’d fallen in the river. Police later revealed in a statement on February 15, 2023, that the mum of two had been classed as a “high risk” missing person. This was due to “vulnerabilities”, including issues with alcohol.
Murder?
There was a lot of speculation thrown in the air including the fact Nicola was experiencing menopausal symptoms which many believed could’ve contributed to her disappearance. However, many also suggested foul play involving Nicola’s partner. When Ms. Bulley first disappeared, her long-time boyfriend Paul Ansell spoke to a newsperson regarding the tragedy.
In this interview, people noticed Ansell smiled and called the events a “dream” which was an odd term to use about Nicola’s disappearance. However, loved ones have spoken out against these accusations. “Family and friends need these accusations to stop immediately. The fact that I’ve had to write this is disgusting to be honest”.
On February 19, 2023, Lancashire Police stated they had found a body less than a mile from where Nicola was last seen. The next day police shared the tragic update that the body found was Nicola’s.
In a conference, they said: “Sadly, we are now able to confirm that yesterday we recovered Nicola Bulley from the River Wyre. Nicola’s family have been informed and are of course devastated. Our thoughts are with them at this time as well as with all her loved ones and the wider community. We recognize the huge impact that Nicola’s disappearance has had on her family and friends, but also on the people of St Michael’s.
“We would like to thank all of those who have helped during what has been a hugely complex and highly emotional investigation. Today’s development is not the outcome any of us would have wanted, but we hope that it can at least start to provide some answers for Nicola’s loved ones, who remain foremost in our thoughts. The case is now being handled by HM Coroner.”
It’s not entirely clear what happened to Nicola Bulley, but we’re sure that in the next couple of weeks, there will be more information and perhaps we’ll know if it’s murder or a tragic accident.
