Nude, rude . . . and in a feud: Does Meryl Streep really hate Brian Cox?

Is envy a dish best served hilariously? Succession bigwig Brian Cox thinks so! In the newest episode of Variety’s “Actors on Actors,” our beloved Cox chatted it up with The Devil Wears Prada alum Emily Blunt, and spilled some beans on a funny interaction with the legend herself, Meryl Streep.

Cox didn’t hold back, confessing, “I met her once, and I used to say, ‘I never liked you.’” Say what now? Don’t worry, it gets better. Cox clarified, “I said, ‘I never liked you because I was jealous.’ … How can anybody be that good?”

Emily Blunt chimed in on Meryl’s on-point performance in The Devil Wears Prada, where she turned method acting into fashion-forward fierceness. But don’t mistake Cox’s humorous confession for shade; it’s all about admiration, folks! Does that mean nude photos were involved? Let’s take a look.

Great debate

Is method acting the way to go? Brian Cox weighs in. He’s not a fan, but he respects that everyone’s got their process. “I’m all for whatever gets you through the day,” he says. Speaking of method acting, the fabulous Meryl Streep aced it by embodying Vogue’s Anna Wintour for The Devil Wears Prada.

But Brian, the straight shooter that he is, didn’t shy away from calling method acting “freaking annoying” when it comes to his Succession co-star Jeremy Strong. Still, his heart’s in the right place, expressing genuine concern for what actors put themselves through.

Guess who is redefining audacious in Hollywood? Meryl Streep didn’t even flinch when Adam McKay, director of the Netflix hit Don’t Look Up, suggested a scene featuring her character (not Meryl herself, mind you) in her birthday suit. Leonardo DiCaprio, on the other hand, had reservations about Meryl’s character showing some skin.

Nude streak?

Why the need for all of this talk, you say? Leo simply sees Meryl as movie royalty! McKay told The Guardian that DiCaprio holds Meryl in such high regard that he couldn’t stomach seeing her character in a revealing light. McKay noted that Meryl didn’t even bat an eyelash or bring it up; she just dived into character like a boss.

In Don’t Look Up, Meryl plays a president with Trump vibes while Leo and Jennifer Lawrence are scientists trying to save the Earth from a comet strike. By the way, Streep is called the GOAT (Greatest of All Time) on set, but apparently, she thought they were comparing her to an actual goat. Turns out there were no nude photos to speak of after all.

Conclusion

There’s something magical about Meryl Streep. From her riveting performances to her unshakable presence, Hollywood and fans are awestruck. With legends like Brian Cox cracking jokes about envy and Leonardo DiCaprio holding her in high esteem, she’s undoubtedly in a league of her own. So, what’s next on Meryl’s agenda?
