Is Gabby Petito’s possible killer Brian Laundrie hiding in Florida?
The case of Gabby Petito has taken a tragic and morbidly expected turn when the body discovered at Bridger-Teton National Forest on Sunday was confirmed to be the 22-year-old missing YouTuber. The cause of death has been listed as homicide though the manner of her murder has yet to be officially revealed by the coroner’s office at this time.
Meanwhile, Petito’s fiancé and person of interest in her murder, Brian Laundrie remains missing in the Carlton Reserve where police are continuing their search efforts in the 25,000 acres. The search has entered its first week as investigators have no leads on where he’s gone or even if he’s still in the Reserve. Federal investigators believe that Laundrie has gone off the grid.
What are the latest details about Brian Laundrie in the case of Gabby Petito? Could he be found in Florida? Do those closest to Laundrie know more than they’re saying about what happened? As always, we remind you that Brian Laundrie is not a named suspect, but a person of interest in the case. As in all cases, he is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
How is the search for Brian Laundrie going?
Not great, thanks for asking. We’re trying not to flip here, but there’s been no new movement in this part of the case. Like, well, at all. Searchers are doing their best to comb through the Carlton Reserve. Speaking with Tampa news station WFLA, former federal agent Bryanna Fox offered some insight into the minds of the FBI agents working on finding Brian Laundrie.
Fox said, “People assume we have access, but that’s not the case. What we do is very restrictive. It’s difficult working a fugitive case, as we are doing things to track their messages with other people, financials, every aspect of their lives.” The strategy here is to look deeply into not just his family, but also acquaintances & friends to see if anyone is helping Laundrie hide.
What makes it really difficult is, well, if Laundrie doesn’t want to found and live off the grid? It could make it even harder to find him. No social media, no contact with the outside, no financial transactions, these are things that make it possible for law enforcement to track someone. She said, “If someone is willing to go off the grid, and live off the land, (it’s) probably the most difficult way to find somebody.”
How likely is it that Laundrie did it?
Being real here? It doesn’t look great for him. He returned home without Gabby. He wouldn’t talk with her family, never reported her missing, lawyered up when police came, and, well, is now gone. In a new report about the lead-up to Gabby’s initial disappearance, the couple were seen arguing in a restaurant in Wyoming before she vanished.
According to CNN, a couple from Louisiana who were in Wyoming saw a “commotion” between Petito & Laundrie at The Merry Piglets Tex-Mex restaurant in Jackson, Wyoming on Aug. 27. They said that Petito was in tears while Brian Laundrie went in and out of the restaurant. He was also angry toward the staff around the hostess stand with their waitress “visibly shaken” by the incident.
This is one of many “domestic incidents” that have been reported taking place in the lead-up to Gabby Petito’s death. Police have asked people who were in the area around the time and witnessed something between the couple to contact the FBI. As it helps build a timeline leading to Petito’s murder.
